    P38 wheel arch liner fixings.

Ohhh! The mudflaps screws - now they can be little bit of a challenge, I eventually gave up on mine and resorted to extreme fury and violence. But the nice new mudguards do look good now. Nice service from your dealer!

does anyone take their P38 offroading?

I have, once - and I was truly amazed at how capable and competent it is off-road. My P38 is mainly used as a run-around about town only, for which it is properly brilliant - nice comfortable ride, pretty good stereo, handles speed-bumps just great (I've stopped slowing down for them...

    urgent help needed

Heater blowing cold is simply not enough coolant in the system! Top it up!

    P38 wheel arch liner fixings.

Yes, you can remove them if you are a bit gentle, I did this just the other day. What I do is I use a blade screwdriver to pry the centre out just a bit and then use a set of pliers to pull it out. I suppose that is the knack if you want to call it that. Some do break but most can be re-used. I...

    Cubby box lid damper

I did remove the whole lid assembly for the reasons you mention and the fact that someone had spilled a sugary cola-type drink all over it. Once removed it was easy to drill the rivet out and put the new damper in place. I seem to recall that the lid is fastened with three counter-sunk screws...

    Cubby box lid damper

With a long enough pop-rivet there is no movement restriction at all and the lid just jumps up. I used a black 3.2 x 10 aluminum rivet so it even looks factory fitted.

    oil report

This is the reason why I always pour 0W-xx in mine, year round. In spite of global warming and at least my fervent wishes that it gets warmer - England is still quite cold in winter. If one really does want the quiet running of a xxW-40 a great compromise is a 0W-40 oil, it is a bit like...

heater control panel has a book on it!?

Don't fumble about in the dark - go to a garage that can read the fault codes for you, that way you know which one it is of the many reasons you get the book symbol.

    Cubby box lid damper

Drill it out and pop-rivet a new one into place - very easy!

    Brake lights sticking on

brake switch is only part of the CC circuit on diesels, is yours a diesel - your post does not say?

    Manifold temperature sender

Check the crankcase ventilation first. Both sides should flow reasonably freely if you remove the hoses from the intake side and blow in them. The flame traps clog easily.

    4.6 Hse

On my 97 4.6 the CC also works what appears to be randomly. I have replaced the vaccum hoses, the pump and checked the vaccum switch at the brake pedal and it is no better. I have used the factory workshop manual troubleshpooting procedure and it all checks, the only thing I have been unable to...

    v8 rocker cover bolts

I was wrong in my earlier post, I only tried a 8mm hex socket, not a double hex as I thought I did. Today I got a 8 mm deep socket for 3/4 drive from Halfords and it fits perfectly.

    v8 rocker cover bolts

I have tried using high quality multi-point sockets but the 8 mm will not fit over it and the 9 mm one is too loose. But using multi-point sockets on the brake calipers do indeed work just fine on my P38A too.

    key fob remote distance

I have the same problem, have to stand right next to car for the remote to work, very annoying. Any details on an uprated receiver would be much appreciated, such as part number, and a good place to to source it from.

I have the some problem, I understand they are called XZN, but I just cannot find anyone to sell me a socket for it. Picture:

    Centre console E/window switchs

The Window/Mirror switch panel has LED's for all lighting except the mirror button which has a bulb. The LEDs will last for ever but the bulb will blow, so if the entire panel is dark it is not just a simple blown bulb problem. To remove the panel, just unscew the two screws on the inside of...

    P38 (-97 4.6) minimum brake disc thickness?

I have had several years of great experience with EBC Brakes and quite a few not so great experiences with some well known brands, so thanks for the tip but I stick with EBC Brakes for both the discs and the kevlar pads. I expect no judder, good "bite" and almsot zero dust - all this for a...

    what oil?

I beg to differ a little bit... IMHO the only three things that matter with an engine oil are; cold viscosity, warm viscosity and service classification. What does not matter is the eternal "synthetic or not" debate. One reason is that the oil manufactuers have won the right to call pretty...
