Hi guys:

I have been looking at the plastic fastners which hold the wheel arch liner around the wheel arch edges on a P38.

Is it possible to remove these and re-use them, or do I need a new set before I start fiddling with them?

Do the centres lever out, is there a knack? Or will I end up knackering the paintwork if I fiddle? Also are they an industry standard item?

Yes, you can remove them if you are a bit gentle, I did this just the other day. What I do is I use a blade screwdriver to pry the centre out just a bit and then use a set of pliers to pull it out. I suppose that is the knack if you want to call it that. Some do break but most can be re-used. I can't imagine they are expensive to obtain from your favorite LR dealer, in my experience they only charge very modest sums for parts such as these.

Yes, they are almost certainly industry standard and can probably be bought for just over tuppence or so each in quantities of 1,000 or more. Which is why buying from a dealer is nice and convenient...

Yes, my friendly local dealer will mail me little plastic bits. Still cheaper than driving over there to pick them up.
They will even drop them off at the local garage if they are making a drop off in the area.
It still requires forward planning though, as starting a job where you have a piece which needs re-fitting for lack of a two penny plastic bit's arrival irks somewhat.

Thanks for the helpful advice. I'll have a go.

(The screws holding on the mudflaps don't look too shiny either!)

Ohhh! The mudflaps screws - now they can be little bit of a challenge, I eventually gave up on mine and resorted to extreme fury and violence. But the nice new mudguards do look good now.

Nice service from your dealer!

My mudguards are nice and shiny.
I'm fooling about with the wheelarch clips because I have just put on some side running boards, and the mudflaps tell me to screw them on like those at the back. However, they have holes in them which mate up with the plastic fastners already there. The professional advice is to put in the self drilling screws provided.
I'm just being picky and don't fancy drilling any rust trap holes for rust trap screws.
