Thanks for photos, how much needs unbolting on the nearside rear suspension?

Can't recall, mines the 3rd gen haldex. Haldex pump had seized in, not ideal but had to drain it by suction. Not sure I'd attempt to rebuild the diff myself if i'm honest, never done one.

Cheers, so it sounds like I can take out any (one) drive shaft and that'll give enough room to pull the diff from the driveshaft on the other side once the diff is loosened. I know I had issues when trying to do my haldex filter/oil, the prop shaft was a right pain and I left it on in the end.

If you could take a few snaps that'd be good. How are you working, axle stands etc? Just wondering how much height you need to get the diff out, yes mine is noisy!

Easier job on a disco than the Defender, tank has to be dropped in the defender, not so with the disco as far as I'm aware and as you say, it has a hatch above the pump in the boot.

Charged my F2 battery, shows green on the battery indicator but it's starting to sound sluggish on engine start - meter showed 12.36V off with 14.5 V charging engine running.

Yeah, that's why I asked, it could be seen that it was definitely the filter then. Which make filter was the 'pattern' version causing the problems?

There's not much in the way of legal lanes in the Exmoor area, many RUPPs etc were lost due to them remaining unclaimed and the became restricted byways. I think it would be difficult to mount a defence to a prosecution for driving 'illegally' on a Restricted Byway on the basis that a valid...

It's highly likely to be the rear diff (bearing inside this is a known weak point) or otherwise could be a duff wheel bearing. Make sure the garage sorts it, could be expensive if the diff is the problem.

Amazing isn't it, I loaned a set of HD steel ramps years ago and have no idea who I loaned them to - never got them back.

Damage is probably due to someone levering against that area whilst trying to pry/remove the drive shaft
