They can be repaired. They have to be drilled to separate and the spring replaced. There is a link on here for a repair kit. Nice and cheap, and an easy job.

Do you still have the original Boge suspension on the A frame? If so, it's probably seen better days. Rebuild A frame with new bushes and joint.

Had a similar problem. I've now connected all the earths together, then to the bulkhead. I had to adjust the on-off-on to make the illumination work on both ''ons'. The four ways required separate wiring to work properly.
