engine undershield missing - is it worth getting one?

I took mine off when I did my oil pump bolt and will not be putting it back on again. A complete pain for maintenance. Also now a complete pain trying to store it in the garage. I might also take the engine cover off as well!

Have a read at this thread. Some good info on reprogramming 2nd hand keys.... D2 Key PLIP & BCU have lost association - Australian Land Rover Owners

    Discovery II td5 Advice

Wipe your finger on the inside of the back brake disks. If there is any oil present, this would likely mean a hub inner seal has failed and a new hub will be required, about £200 for the part. Are you handy with the spanners? A TD5 will more than likely develop a catalog of niggly faults...

    New disco weird handling

The handling on my TD5 was pretty shocking and it turned out to be caused by the front tyres. They had been left to wear unevenly by the previous owner. I swapped front to back and that totally sorted it. The back tyres were in much better nick than the front. Cheers, Andy

    Disco TD5

Does the engine actually cut out completely or does it drop back to idle with no throttle response?

    TD5 Power Steering Noise

Interesting point Urban Panzer! When I turn left only, I get a 'fluttering' noise comming from the near side front of the car. It definitely isn't a groan and it doesn't do it when the car is turning right or when the car is stationary and I turn the steering wheel. Could this be something...

Interesting idea Dave. Keep us posted! Cheers, Andy

    td5 remap or chip

This gunge comes from the EGR valve. You should fit a blanking plate or remove the EGR valve completely to keep this clean:)

Did you siphon any of the petrol out before putting the engine oil etc in?

    Replacement Windscreen

I think I saw D2 heated screens listed on Rimmer Bros website. I don't recall them being that expensive, not sure though.

    Wastegate

Not sure how much it should move keith. With mine I removed the circlip and made sure it was able to move freely. Not 100% sure but I think you may have to have the engine under load to to get the actuator to move. Maybe someone else can confirm this? Cheers, Andy

    Wastegate

Hi It's easy enough to get the little circlip off the wastegate arm thingy and then you can test the acuator and lube if necessary. I had a little resistance in mine. I think you can put pliers on the rod and push it back and forth with the engine off. I experimented with shortening the...

    Rear Tracking

I've a feeling that this alignment might be a main stealer job as the car might have to be put on Testbook to get it into the right mode with the suspension. It's defo pretty complicated. I have had plenty of probems getting garages to do my TD5 right and that has a fixed rear and only the...

    TD5 Woes

Even though you have changed the injector harness there is still a fair chance that you have some residual oil tracking down the engine harness. This takes a few cleans every so often. There will be alot of oil that has to run through. Have a look at the red plug on the ECU. Cheers, Andy

    TD5 Power Folding Wing Mirrors

My 2000 GS has power folding mirrors fitted. I didn't even realise I had them fitted until I pushed the button down by accident:o I think they're great. Very handy for squeezing past other vehicles on narrow roads. Mine have been very reliable as well. Sorry I can't help with the install...

Key sometimes won't turn in ignition

When the ignition on my TD5 was totally stuck, I pulled the key blade off and then turned the blade with more force using pliers. This got me going. I took the ignition barrell off, ran some contact cleaner through it from the back, then once dry squirted some graphite powder (ebay) in. It's...

    Coil Conversion

Yes, all you need is a Nanocom or Testbook (dealer) to tell the car that it is on coils and not SLS. The coil kit is about £80 and looks pretty easy to fit. Cheers, Andy

    Rusting TD5 door window trim

My TD5 has this as well. It looks to me like a plastic coating over the frame. You can get replacement frames but they are pricey. About £180 IIRC from Rimmers for the set. I better bet would be some 2nd hand ones. I've covered the rusted bits on mine with black insualting tape which is...

Td5 AC/Heater switch not illuminating in dark ?

Hi I replaced the bulbs on mine. You have to take the digi clock out which gets at one of the clips. The other one can be got at if you lower the fuse box door thing to the right of the steering wheel and reach your hand up through towards the climate control panel. It's a bit fiddly to...

    2001 TD5 Auto

I've been following these threads on AULRO as my TD5 manual gets harsh (rumbles?) bang on 3K revs and smooths out again quickly. It does it in every gear. I've no idea what causes it but I hardly ever rev my car to 3k so am not too bothered. Although I would like to get to the bottom of it...
