:pPastmaster not trying to mask the problem if lowering the tyre pressures resolves the problem then i would suggest the problem then lies with the tyres. Cost nothing to try and not rocket science.:p

Will try and lower the pressures but have changed them from when i bought it they were 40 front 30 rear now 38 rear and 30 front as per the book, also have had wheels balanced. Going for tracking this morning.

So did the problem occur before or after you changed the pressures? If they were like that when you bought it they may have been deliberately masking the problem.

OK Mastermac. Point taken. Swapping the wheels front to back would be a variation on the same theme.:)

Did not think of that but drove the first 50 miles with old pressures and then decided that needed to check them and changed them, the problem then occured on the journey after changing the pressures, so that could have been masking the problem. Would that have pointed to shockes then?

OK. First put the pressures back to what they were and see if that solves the problem. If it does, you have a tyre problem as Mastermac suggested. I would then swap the tyres front to back, put them at correct pressures and see what happens.

If the tyres are the problem, you need to sort it, as driving with the wrong pressures is probably illegal.

If that doesn't solve it, then it's keep looking I'm afraid.

Presumably you haven't got radials on one axle and crossply on the other?

Not an expert on tyres but have Grabber AT2's on the rear pretty much new loads of tread and the tryes are 255/55/18's then the front has wrangelr Hp's 255/55/18's which are about 5mm in thread.

It's on the ramp now having tracking done. Fingers crossed. I'm getting desperate now. The weather is getting bad and am going to need my landrover.

My 04 Disco SLS no ACE has a similar problem. The drive is just not right, the back end is very choppy and you have to continually adjust the car to keep it in a straight line.

I have had 2 independent specialists look the car over but neither has found anything significant. Shocks were replaced a few months ago and have just replaced front steering damper which has helped a bit.

Next stage is to put car on testbook to check suspension settings or sell the bl**dy thing.

Hope someone here may have some inspiration. Anyone in (southern) West Sussex prepared to lend me a Nanocom?

OK its been with a landy specialist all day and huess what can't find anything only suggestion they have is to change the tyres as i have 2x new general at2 onthe back and a couple of ropey wranglers onthe front so going to go for 4 new road tyres what ones are best?

So did you swap them front to back as I suggested? Might solve your problem.
Goodyears are the manufacturer's fitting but they're quite hard to get and expensive. I'm going for Kumho's next time round - they are cheaper and I have heard good things about them.

do you know how much for kumho's? i need 4 so trying to get a deal.

The handling on my TD5 was pretty shocking and it turned out to be caused by the front tyres. They had been left to wear unevenly by the previous owner. I swapped front to back and that totally sorted it. The back tyres were in much better nick than the front.

Cheers, Andy
