Hi

I'm new to Landies in the past week after having bought a 2000 Series II TD5 and have already found the forum really useful by solving a few niggly things in existing posts. Here's one I can't find tho: the engine undershield is missing. Is it worth trying to get hold of one? So far it was useful to not have to remove it to get to the starter motor out - turned out to be a loose power supply lead so I'm not over inclined! But is it useful? For example in all this snow does it make a difference?

doubt it, like you say it makes life loads easier when its not there.i have to jack mine up so the prop drops to get mine out the way, think i might cut the bastid off!
i had a PAS leak last week-if it hadnt been there i could have diagnosed it in half the bloody time!

Mines never had one since I 've owned it. Easier to clean underneath without it

I have one on mine- the only problem with it -

shows every leak to be in the same place as fluid pools on it and then finds the same place every time to drop on to the garage floor, giving the impression that the leak is always in the same place.

They do ocassionally leak, had one that didn't for a few months, then discovered it was running dry!

I took mine off when I did my oil pump bolt and will not be putting it back on again. A complete pain for maintenance. Also now a complete pain trying to store it in the garage.

I might also take the engine cover off as well!

I took the engine cover off (and left it off) my TD5 couple of weeks ago when I took the viscous fan off.

To be honest I haven't noticed any difference in NVH.
