    Tdi Engine

Just try and find yourself a decent lr specialist, they're all over the place. Any good independent will know his/her way round a diesel, especially something as simple as 300tdi bud

Engine Oil - Keep it simple

I think his is a TDi not a TD5 CharlesY

    vibration problem after oil service????

For that engine in a hot climate they list a 20w/50 OR 15W/50 with a minimum spec of API SJ / ACEA A2-96, it should have the R380 gearbox in that apparently so either MTF gearbox oil or dextronIII atf oil, diffs 80w/90 and 90 in the transfer box. When you say rough v8 sound in what way is it...

    Clutch on its way?

I think the defender is an air blending system so the coolant is always circulating through the matrix whether you have it set to hot or cold, it just blends the hot and cold air. The air blowing through the matrix would cool the coolant passing through it but i don't think it slows the warming...

My heated front screen in my 90 works well enough

Engine Oil - Keep it simple

You can only have a safety margin with quality rather than viscosity slob

    gear box failure

I think the trouble is you bought a TD5 and tried to make it go like an M5. I don't think land rover had that in mind when they sourced the gearbox. The old Toyotas are tough old work horses but the new ones are even more festooned with contol units than TD5s and are not as bullet proof as you...

    Clutch on its way?

I was wondering why land rover says to drive away from start up and not to let it idle

Engine Oil - Keep it simple

I must have worded it wrong. Our debate came about because you did not know what viscosity your oil was hence me quoting you on a couple of posts where you changed your mind. You recommend a 15w/30 universal tractor oil for all land rover engines as the best oil you can use in all climate...

    Clutch on its way?

Alright Chris, are any of the gearbox components spinning without lube at idle? Riggaz

Engine Oil - Keep it simple

It can only be the perfect viscosity for the CONDITIONS, not for the engine. It can only be the perfect viscosity for the ENGINE in the CLIMATE it works in. We are all far too obsessed with oils, and far too easily persuaded to part with outrageous sums of money for cans of (snake) oil...

Engine Oil - Keep it simple

Sorry i was referring to the oil is oil comment rather than the halfords vs mobil 1, obviously you don't need mobil 1 in a simple engine. With regards to the universal oil, the first time we spoke about it you said it was a 15w/40 "It's a superb premium grade 15w-40 for turbo diesels. I...
