I had to pull TWO Toyota 4x4s (HA HA!) out of a flat muddy field last Friday. Just drove my Disco TD5 in tied on a nice kevlar rope, and pulled them out.
No trouble at all.

Go buy a Toyota - clearly it's going to suit you.

Ha HA !
What a joke.
Just wait till you need to get some parts for a slitty .... TIME and MONEY ... it's going to take a truck-load of both.

Last month he said that his TD5 was "chipped, uprated intercooler, exhaust,EGR bypass, ITG filter etc" and that it would "pull 6 ton no problem"....just a thought I wonder if that is why his gearbox blew up...

If he thinks his gearbox troubles are over hes got a surprise coming with a jap truck especially the lightweight ones, I used to recover at least two a month in OZ. :D

I think the trouble is you bought a TD5 and tried to make it go like an M5. I don't think land rover had that in mind when they sourced the gearbox. The old Toyotas are tough old work horses but the new ones are even more festooned with contol units than TD5s and are not as bullet proof as you might hope so be careful. They will also get stuck in a cow turd.

My TD5 did nearly 200 miles last week at over six tons on the road, 55 mph, up the motorway, but at that weight I drive very gently, and take it easy on the gears and clutch.

Obviously I am not as clever as Raeberac because I have not destroyed my nice gearbox by thrashing the guts out of it and the engine while towing at six tons.

Easy to wreck a machine. The trick is to avoid abusing them.

well said charlesY, finally something said that makes sense. I totally agree trying to make a TD5 do things it wasnt designed for wasnt the best idea i have ever had, but we all live and learn.

i have just purchased a new vehicle with warranty ect and i intend to "look after this one" NOT A TOYOTA, but a Landrover so hopefully this wont have the problem with cow turds.

My old one needs the rear diff assembly replaced and its only the transfer box that has gone. a pin or something (apparently) has or will have droped out.
anyway i will get it repaired.

Thanks for making a newbee feel so welcome you bunch of ***** lol

Depends on wot you've got.

decided to go for one of the very last TD5 defenders ever made. 07 plate delivery miles. i had a good long think about a "new" new one and decided it would probably be best to avoid the first model as possible problems wont have appeared yet?

only problem i can think of is that i wont want to be driving my nice new vehicle through cow turd. just see how long i can keep that new car smell for. i never knew you dont have to MOT a new car for the first 3 years??? now how cool is that.

and my "GIVE A F U C K OMETER" reads a big fat zero @ slob you sad wee man. just think of all those nice weekends i will have not fiddeling with dirty old landrovers in the barn, oh well ill be thinking of you all.

aye yer right, yule have more time to fiddle with yourself and yer pet poodle

Hey boys, he showed contrition, so give the poor sod a chance, AND he didn't go buy a slitty, so he can't be all bad really.

By the way, Mr Raeberac, I had the injectors out of my TD5 at 20k miles and 20 months, still over a year inside warranty, because a frigging penny copper washer under an injector wasn't right and stopped the motor. There was NO chance of me letting the local main stealer have it to fix. Their drug crazed yobbos won't be touching my car if I can help it.

Plate the EGR immediately if you have any sense.

Enjoy your battles with Mr Slob, and Mr Grunt.
Those guys have the patience of saints, but not necessarily many other saintly attributes.

They will generally provide excellent advice though!
