are you making sure it is pushed right down as mine did this until I pushed it right down and my dipstick has clips on the plastic handle at the top which clip onto the dipstick tube to stop it coming out

If you have taken the rear quarter light out ( as I did when I was locked out of mine) why cant you get a hook of some sort to pull the bonnet catch and open the bonnet to get at the battery

Hi when this happened to me I got in by taking rear quarter light out instead of breaking glass hope this helps
