New Exhaust fitting on 200 tdi

I had a bit of trouble getting the old one off (was only hanging on by the rubber hanger at one end) - was going to take the wheel off. Found I got enough space to pull it out by jacking up the body with the jack under the tow bar. I reckon when I fit the new one I'll do as you say and take the...

New Exhaust fitting on 200 tdi

My rear muffler fell off on Saturday and I noticed a massive hole in the intermediate pipe too. Instead of bodging it an welding it up, I found a new full system on fleabay for about £50. LAND ROVER 200TDI DISCOVERY 1 EXHAUST SYSTEM '89-'94 on eBay (end time 13-Nov-09 13:21:32 GMT) Has anyone...

    V8 Discovery

It seems unlikely that the gbox code is causing your problem. Does it turn over at normal speed once your try and start it when it's warm or does it turn over slowly? I'd say it's pointing at an ignition problem - does it run fine the rest of the time?

discovery insurance 17 year old ?

Lancaster Direct might be able to help - they gave me a good price on my old Rangey. I was 21, no no claims, 3 points on license, 1 non-fault accident. It was a 3.5 efi 1987 Classic. Only cost me £305 a year with them - cheaper than the 900cc Seat MArbella I was using at the time (was costing me...

discovery insurance 17 year old ?

When I was living at home my parents had a few old Range Rovers and Landy's over hte years - they couldn't get us insured on them until we were 25 - and they tried loads of places. Things have relaxed a little now but I think you'll be lucky if you find anywhere at all that will take that risk...

    Transfer box filler plug stuck...

At least you tried the filler plug BEFORE you drained the oil! Could try heating it with a blow torch gently. Bashing on the front the plug with a hammer may help to loosen it off but that doesn't always work. As Sirus said, can you get a breaker bar in there or an extension on the end...

    Boot floor reinforcers

I didn't even bother with those when I patched the floor. Just patched it all from the top and left the remnants of the supports as they were. Floor seems solid enough and it past the MOT so I was happy.

Diff oil on rear wheel - what should I plan on doing?

All sorted - whine is now completely gone so it seems like the lack of oil didn't damage the diff. No mishaps on this job - except knocking over the drained diff oil all over the rear bumper of the landy when I was putting my tools away! It fecking stinks in the car now....oh well!

Rear body mounts and cross member

You can get a lot of travel on the body just by jacking it off the chassis. I had to do the front mounts on mine - used a normal jack and a long bit of fence post wood. Just kept gently lifting the body until it was far enough apart to get in. Then jammed some more wood in the gap between the...

    tacho

I've seen some posts on here about the 300 tdi tacho - there's apparently a little black wire on the alternator that does the tach and the connector gets corroded inside or break loose. Look on the alternator for this connector as it sounds like it's normally always the problem. Not sure about...

Diff oil on rear wheel - what should I plan on doing?

Got the hub off on Friday and found the diff seal gasket was pretty bad. Replaced that and used some blue hylomar - starting to wish I'd used some oil proof flange sealant but it seems to have sealed the leak. Had to take the hub assembly to teh garage again to knock the rear bearing race out -...

    Rev limiter

The 300's use a throttle position sensor don't they? Could be at fault - I've heard of similiar issues on Camaro's when the TPS is faulty and confusing the ECU over how much fuel to pump.

    Modified Disco insurance?

Lancaster Direct hooked me up with 4x4 Highway - my insurance is about £250 fully comp, 4x4 event and off road cover, driving other vehicle cover, windscreen cover. I can't acrue any no claims but they'll hold the ones I have for the year so they are kept current.

    Rev limiter

The word "Jeep" was coined by the military referring to offroad vehicles as "G.P's" (or "general purpose") so could technically refer to a Landy, if that makes any difference! You done a good service, oil and filters recently? Can make a world of difference.

    Wheel Nuts

I must admit I assumed that may be the case - the ones holding my spare on really don't look right at all!

    Wheel Nuts

I see, I've obviously got the alloy ones but is it OK to use these on the steels? They look really dodgy but seem to hold the wheel alright (I've got a steel as my spare now with aloy nuts on) Didn't know if the tapered shoulders on the alloy nuts would make them unsuitable.... Probably safer...

    Wheel Nuts

I've got standard alloys on my disco, is it safe enough to use the nuts from them on these new wheels I bought for? Or is it worth investing in a proper set of nuts for them? If so, which ones are they?! I haven't stuck these on yet, was going to use them for off roading as they look like...

    dodgy metallic ringing sound 2

Mine had that - sounds awful some days but can't even hear it other days! It was a wheel bearing. A few weeks before I had a similiar nasty noise and it was the front prop UJ. Both are easy to diagnose by shaking the suspected component.

I downloaded a copy of that I thought but I'll be damned if I know where it was sourced or where I saved it....
