Morning, found out that the whine from my rear diff was probably due to lack of oil. Now I've filled her up, I noticed a load of oil leaking out the half shaft seals on the NSR wheel. Am I right in assuming that it's:

a) Probably the wheel bearing (replace bearing, halfshaft/spline gasket, locking nuts)
b) could be rubber oil seal on half shaft - replace that too.

I did a front wheel bearing the other month - are they that much different to change on the rear? Could it be anything else that's failed?

Any advice appreciated!

Worth changing the bearing while I'm in there I guess....the hub seals only that poxy rubber ring isn't it?

Think so, when i done me rear i had an inner and outter stub seal, aint the swivels on the front? where u getting these bits from? i need to do the front seals and them prices look good
 
Getting them from paddocks, they have normally been good when I order from them. The swivels are on the front but I guess the part number/description is the same for the rear stub axel gasket seals on front and back. That part was from the Rear Axel section...plus for 20p if it's wrong I can always blow my nose on it!

I think mine only had one axel seal when I did the front - can't remember now though! Bit late, already ordered but I might be able to reuse one of the old seals if there are two and one looks servicable...!

I paid for express shipping (£10) and got a new wheel brace too (mine bends when undoing the wheels so not worth risking snappage for £5!) and the whole lot came to £37 with VAT.
 
I downloaded a copy of that I thought but I'll be damned if I know where it was sourced or where I saved it....
 
Ive had a change of heart... membered i got microcat, looked up part numbers and entered em in craddocks search box worked very well but i aint gonna pay £10 for £4.50's worth of bits :(
 
Got the hub off on Friday and found the diff seal gasket was pretty bad. Replaced that and used some blue hylomar - starting to wish I'd used some oil proof flange sealant but it seems to have sealed the leak. Had to take the hub assembly to teh garage again to knock the rear bearing race out - I got the front one out no worries. He put the new races in for me and greased it up for a tenner so not too bad.
Was going to fit it all back together one night this week but the clock change has ballsed it all up - it's so dark when I leave work, I may have to leave it until Friday afternoon or even the weekend.
Do I need to do anything with the half shaft when I put it back in? Does it need the splines coating with grease (or copper slip?)
 
All sorted - whine is now completely gone so it seems like the lack of oil didn't damage the diff.
No mishaps on this job - except knocking over the drained diff oil all over the rear bumper of the landy when I was putting my tools away! It fecking stinks in the car now....oh well!
