I was hoping someone could help identify the following problem. I have a 2001 Disco II 2.5dsl automatic. I have had it for two years and have only put around 2/3 thousand miles on it and total milage is 86k. Recently when accelerating when the rev's hit 2,500 it refuses to rev higher and "judders" until it manages to change up gear and then acts normally. I had a friend look at it and he believes the gearbox and engine are not the problem but thinks there may be an emissions sensor that is limiting the rev's when going up through the gears. He put some additive to it and now when it is fully warmed up it runs smooth. However when I drive it from cold the same problem comes back. Does anyone have any experience of this type of issue. It is a great jeep but I am getting fustrated with this problem. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. Best regards John

Just to add to the above - I see some threads on ERG valve. Could this be my problem and if I remove it will it cause other problems (and solve this one?) THanks John

In fairness to jfarrell32, over here in Ireland, any 4x4 is generally referred to as a jeep. It has taken me a fair wile of having a land rover to start calling it a land rover.

Back to the original problem, sorry I can't help, but where abouts are you in the country, I could recommend a couple of good land rover specialists that may be worth talking to.

The word "Jeep" was coined by the military referring to offroad vehicles as "G.P's" (or "general purpose") so could technically refer to a Landy, if that makes any difference!

You done a good service, oil and filters recently? Can make a world of difference.

That was in the second world war, along time ago...I think Chrysler, or who ever owns the brand now would get upset in the same way that Hoover prefer you to call it a vacuum cleaner if its not made by Hoover. We object to people calling Land Rovers Jeeps in the same way that James Dyson doesn't like people calling the cleaners that his company make Hoovers.

Of course, none of this helps the OP...its just a smoke screen 'cos I don't know the answer to his question :)

i too think it could be overboost but you realy need to get it pluged in to see if there are any faults or you can start to spend money in the wrong place

The one I object to is the calling of public address systems Tannoy even they may not be manufactured or installed by Tannoy. :)

OK back to the smokey diesel than.

I dont object to any brand name misuse - esp if its good fo a wind up.:D
But what if they make calling fat peeps taboo - like racism etc.
I have two problems with that, first my mates cant call me a fat basta-d anymore, and second - its one less thing our top comedians can take the p-ss out of...

I am based in Kildare, Straffan. Had it serviced recently (but not a main dealer). Also cleaned the ERG valve but the problem persists. I will do a search on overboost to see what has already been discussed. Thanks John

The 300's use a throttle position sensor don't they? Could be at fault - I've heard of similiar issues on Camaro's when the TPS is faulty and confusing the ECU over how much fuel to pump.

The OP's car is a 2001 Disco II 2.5ds, not a 300...but I guess it will have all sorts of electronics to go wrong....

Searched through the topics on overboost and it does not seem to be the problem - any other thoughts/ideas?

So what are the symptoms then?

Those that you described at the beginning of the thread are classic overboost symptoms.

Have you checked the solenoid? Checked the wastegate actuator? Plugged it into a diagnostic?
