hi, i had this dodgy ringing sound(it sounds like i`m dragging a chain along) from underneath my disco now for a month or so, it only happens when the vehicle is moving and comes and go`s as it please`s, if i dipp the clutch it does go a little quieter. i notice the transfer box is leaking so have bought some oil for it could it be this? also i had a second hand prop fitted recentley and a mate told me the 2 arrows should be lined up on the shaft when fitted , as i didn`t fit it could it be that this isn`t right hence the noise?

I've had similar from disc guards, the metallic plates that get bent when off-roading so barely touch the discs ... and from a front prop with a nackered UJ ... and from the little exhaust heat-shield between the turbo and inlet pipe ... but it could be from anywhere that something metallic bangs against a tube, of which you have the props, axles, chassis etc etc ... ;)

Mine had that - sounds awful some days but can't even hear it other days! It was a wheel bearing.
A few weeks before I had a similiar nasty noise and it was the front prop UJ.

Both are easy to diagnose by shaking the suspected component.

mine did that last sat for about an hr, it was after i took the diff lock off anothe guy said his does it sometimes said it was transmission:confused::confused:

yeah i had changed my front prop recently coz it did the same made ringing noise then uj gave up, my mate told me bout the 2 arrows on the shaft should line up, as i didnt fit it i don`t know if they do, do you think it could be this?
