    2.6 6 cylinder vs 2286

years ago i put a six in a s1, it fitted on the gearbox and the bulkhead but i had to move the mountings, i put the rad in front of the cross member. It was a lovely thing to drive and good on petrol. It looked awful and i should have cut the bulkhead and moved the gearbox back.

    Bump start peril

you wont do it any good, I would be surprised if the engine turned over at all. it could bugger the diff, a half shaft or the gearbox. I have done this on a petrol but unless the compression is well down i dont think its a good idea.

    johnnys series 3 resto project

most diesel motors back in the day did not have valve stem oil seals, this is because there is no vacuum in the inlet manifold, the exhaust also weren't fitted, the seals were used on petrol motors and the few diesels that were fitted with a butterfly valve in the manifold ( for the servo, if...

Ok Chaps, I have just put the gearbox back in my series 1, i had it out to put new bearings in. when i drove it all was well for about a mile then there was a loud screeching noise, its speed dependent and will carry on if i coast out of gear. it comes on randomly and if i stop it will go away...

I have had loads of cars bored out in situ, we used to do it with a van Norman boring bar. it clamps to an adjacent bore and centers it self with "cats paws" these open out in the bore and are wound back in when the cutting starts. we always taped the big end journal the pressure washed the...

    Air filter question

oil bath causes almost no restriction on air, it works a bit like a dyson, the air is forced around a corner and the heavy particals hit the surface of the oil and stick. the vacuum in the inlet will not be a effected by removing of changing the air filter.

    (Really) worn out brakes!

Had a basterd of a job getting a good pedal on my s1, with new shoes, in the end i cut a window in an old drum an had a look to see what was happening, shoe was out of shape by about 5 mm at one end, it would be worn out before it bedded in, in the end i fitted a set of s/h shoes fitted spot on...

    Brakes failed MOT

you can brake a half shaft or the dif, you should never ever use a trans handbrake when the driveshaft is moving
