My guess is Water pump bearings. mine went at 135,000 miles. lots of brown water spraying around the radiator area and dripping onto floor! It was an easy fix (pump c. £70 + 3 hrs labour - viscous fan nut was stuck and a b*gger to get off!)

my 2002 TD6 still going strong with over 110,000 and my 2004 V8 petrol still going strong with 167,000 miles.

Data, taxis are on the go all day and so don't do short trips that don't allow it to get up to normal operating temp.

Can second the recommendation about Gary Elliott. He has some really spankingly good looking cars and is only in the business for fun...... He's already very successful in other areas. If only doing 5k a year, go for a petrol. The 2006 onwards jag 4.4 is a good and much sought after engine...

Mines got over 160,000 and running as good as when i first got her 3 years ago. 2004 V8/LPG Autobiography. Mileage isn't the issue, it's whether it's had its gearbox oil changed regularly, lots of TLC and oil changes etc. Everything in mine works and its been looked after by the previous 2...

@stuckagainsteve, normally I would agree with you on avoiding early new models but my june2002 td6 was faultless for the 4 yrs I had it (5 previous owners, no service history at all) was completely original and is still pooling along happily with its new owner and well over 100,000 miles.

@DP How long did it take to get the instrument cluster out and back in again?

My TD6 averaged 25 MPG over 4 years (actual) and i get 17+ on my 4.4 V8 petrol LPG which equates to 28+ MPG. Better sound, better performance. Both BMW engines are bombproof but the TD6 gearbox is "chocolate" and towing could bring on more probs?

search Fullfatrr.com for answers to this. It is to do with the angle of the blade against the windscreen. There are diagrams etc showing how to fix.

I reckon it is the drive shaft. My one was replaced by the previous owners after the same symptoms. Or diff oil needs replacing?
