didn't realise the halfshafts have to come out. knew the drive flange would come off/out. does this mean I need some topup oil for my axle? or can it be done without loosing oil out the axle?
just want to be prepared with any extras I may need before getting myself stranded at work just due to sorting my brakes out
On the rear axle the drive flange is part of the haftshafts.
Once the wheels are off the first job is to pull the shafts out,
unbolt the caliper,
then remove the hub/bearing nut and pull the hub/disc off in one,
seperate the disc from the hub (if you have ABS you'll need to remove the ABS ring from inside the disc),
then replace in the same order.
You wont loose any oil as it stays in the bottom of the axle case.
I can't remember what the torc setting is for the hub nut, but if you do it up good and tight to seat the bearings, then back if off until the hub turns freely you should be about right.
Be warned the hub/disc don't always separate easily, sometimes they need heat and a good bashing (putting the hub back into the wheel will keep things steady while you do this).
Remember to use either new flange seals or some sealant.
