As garage was clear started to strip and survey Discovery 300tdi for rust inspection. And weld new sections. Thought being a 1998 it wouldn't be that bad.....

New drop links and a bump stop on the S2 Disco.
Stupid question...
Why are there no flats on the ball joint side of the drop link.
Makes getting the rusty ones off a right bugger. Had to get the hack saw out and cut them both off....
New ones have flat spots (17mm) all greased up and done.....
Mudguards tomorrow if I can figure out how to get the old sheared bolts out.

I drove it !!!!

also changed water pump, got three fan belts from motor factors to identify the correct length, and worked out where the puddle of brake fluid is coming from...er...

got another D1 to look after now. so started off with air and fuel filter and both axle oils changed. just need to get the engine oil and filter changed along with the box oils.

nearly took it to the garage to get this vibration sorted out. Bit too cold, think I will leave it till Thursday when it should be a bit warmer.

The day of the defender is looming. Sad stuff. Devastating in fact.

However, I'm sure parts manufacturing will live on. Which brings me to my main point. What's to stop any of us buying up parts, galvanised chassis, engines, body panels etc from new of the shelf parts. And building a defender in our back gardens. Can we not register it and get a chassis number issued for it. Thus creating a new land rover which, after this year, will no longer be manufactured in the UK.

So can we not continue manufacturing at a more personal level?

broke down in the work D1 today lost all but 4th gear so looks like mine is back to work tomorrow.
got my window back on the grip at the bottom so hopefully I have the use of my window back without needing both hands to lift it then push the button to get it closed
