I don’t know but if you turned them other way round would it still clamp wheel and then the long side touch bonnet,
That maybe would give better support to the bolts?
Or maybe same clamp for different wheels.

I have replaced the new leaking water pump with the old one. I will order a new OEM one and keep the old one as a spare :)
All good and ready for tomorrow.......
@neilly perhaps a once over to be sure of the best chance of me actually completing Junes trip :rolleyes:
 
twice....LOL.

I just fitted an air horn to mine, after the old snail horns got full of water and mud and ended up making a sound like a farting canary.
Hopefully next time a pikey and his caravan pull out on me I can give him the good news.

Changed the front brake pads, found another knackered piston in the n/s/f caliper - this ‘kin thing will be all new by the time i’m finished:mad:

Changed the Front Diff Oil - sludgy brown cack, flushed and full of new stuff.

Strangely quiet.

Why are tractor joints so finicky? Add to much grease & they don’t go together.

I've investigated Monday's breakdown. This had involved a lack of drive and a ride home on an AA flatbed truck. So, gearbox out for the second time in a fortnight. I was wondering whether the gearbox was the worse for my taking it apart the other day, but it seems fine. No, the culprit was this:

That splined boss in the middle of the clutch plate had come loose from the plate itself. That central part with holes in is just a stamped piece of sheet metal, and the boss goes through a hole in the middle and is merely staked to hold it in. Rather like Meccano wheels used to be made when I was young. Sometimes the boss would come loose and rotate independently of the rest of the wheel in a similar way to my clutch. The splined bit can be rotated independently of the rest of it. Seems a very flimsy way to attach the boss to the disc, seeing as it has to push the car along. You can also see hairline cracks radiating out from the centre. I don't think they're supposed to be there. The clutch is less than 18 months old. I'd have hoped for better things from branded parts. It's a Valeo not a bargain basement Ebay special.

Fortunately when this happened I was on an A road near Welshpool, so I was able to coast along and pull into a farm entrance. But it gives me the willies thinking about what if it had happened while I was accelerating hard to filter into a stream of motorway traffic

Right, waiting for a new clutch to show up. I hope it comes quickly because I've got to get it back together and get it MOTed shortly.
