I can confirm the coolant is all still present and the highly efficient heater has been employed to dry out sodden gear frequently on the trip.

Regarding the pics, i seem to have endless scenic photos now, having driven from Snowdonia, through Cumbria and then on to Ben Nevis via various mountain ranges in Scotland. Glen Coe was the highlight so we're going to come home that way tomorrow.

This weekend, I finally got round to doing a few jobs that have been on the 'to do' list.

Replaced crankcase breather with cyclone oil separator.

Fitted EGR delete. The original EGR was stuck shut so no exhaust gases were getting through but thought it better not to have all that gubbins in the airflow.

Fitted a Gates stat in the top hose. Engine now running at correct temperature so hopefully more efficiently.

While it was off, I checked the inlet manifold for gunk build up but only found a thin coating of oil so I assume the EGR has been stuck shut for some time!

Cleaned the wiper switch contacts with some contact cleaner and I now have wipers that work on demand, not when they feel like it!

All jobs went smoothly thanks to comments and advice found on the forum. Thanks.
 
Today did all vacuum hoses relating to turbo and egr. Shout out for SkyParts in Worcester - five metres of 3mm vacuum hose for £7.
 
Fitted new engine oil cooler to V6. Started to strip another donor car for goodies for my Td4 refurb. Took off exhaust, propshaft, rear subframe, diff and arms. Tomorrow will drop off a good tank cradle !
 
BTW if anyone wants a 3 door Freelander body shell or 2 please let me know. I really do seem to be ending up with quite a lot!!
 
I know that feeling all too well Andy! as you know, as soon as you get rid of something, a week later you'll find you'll need it! LOL

Do you have rear doors? Mine's got holes - but if yours are also scabby and rotten, wondering whether you have enough metal to make a repair panel for mine?

I don't know if I'll have a FL1 on the road, by the time you're down this way though. My TD4 really isn't playing ball.:(

Well after a messy day yesterday cleaning out the EGR and fitting a new set of Silicone hoses from DHP, I thought I would inspect the rest of the vacuum system as I have P0046 fault kicking up the EML and I found that the nipple at the rear of the Vacuum reservoir was broken and partly hanging off so having ordered a new replacement from LR for £36.04 which I pick up tomorrow (I had initially thought it was the solenoid but will wait and see what happens once I fit the new part and reset the light. I set about another job relating to a locked on spare wheel due to rusted on locking nut which the previous owner had obviously tried to get off but only managed to succeed in loosening the stud so it was rotating freely so several coffees later and with some ingenuity I managed to get the whole carrier off without too much drama. (don't you just love Land Rovers!) The lads at the local tyre fitters are LR owners so they said they would sort it out for me. I was amazed how little corrosion there was behind the wheel so I gave it a quick polish. I plan to repaint the spare wheel carrier once the wheel (complete with F£*@ed Tyre) and it are separated. I also fitted a new set of flat aero Bosch wipers from wiper blades.co.uk which I thought was a bargain for £18.

After replacing the door lock mechanism I'm just awaiting delivery of a new black drivers door handle from these guys which was a real bargain and over half the price of a LR one and its exactly the same part number.

Just to advise that a Td4 I bought had the same Vac tank breakage and didn't throw any fault codes. It was just a bit gutless until I fitted the vane vacuum arrangement properly.

Hi Andy I hope its not a dumb question but can you explain what you mean by the vane vacuum arrangement properly? I must admit after a TDCi Defender, Disco 4 and three Freelander 2's I have been surprised on how gutless the Freelander TD4 has felt so that may explain on how it feels currently. I have both the Haynes and LR workshop manual but I do find the best help on here especially with photos. Cheers Sully

A standard TD4 FL1 will feel gutless compared to those. It has about 60 BHP per ton, which is less than a Morris Minor.

If you want a faster FL1, then get the 1.8 petrol or V6 petrol, or do some mods the the TD4.

As Andy said, vacuum leaks won't show fault codes, as the vac system isn't monitored, and the EDC isn't that smart.
 
Vacuum feed via the control solenoid which takes commands from the EDC alters the turbo vanes and hence the boost. If the pipe isn't fitted you are not getting the boost!

Ah Ok Is that this one located under the front drivers wheel arch or the one on the front of the engine near the EGR valve?

Well i'm not interested in the Speed as I have a Octavia VRS 245 for that! lol it just feels much more sedate thats for sure in comparison to my previous trucks.
