Gunned black rubbery mastic in behind the door seals where they don’t quite fit snuggly at the join between windscreen surround and bulkhead. This is part of trying to chase down an annoying leak that makes the undermat floor in the footwells wet when it rains. The door seals are new and genuine LR ones. It’s a 2002 Defender 90

Vain hope I suspect.

Fitted a new MAF sensor, cleaned MAP sensor, took the door cards off and replaced all the wee black grommit things and cleaned then ready for a spray with light grey vinyl paint. Removed all the door locks ready for replacement when they arrive. Took the back door lock and handle mechanism off and took the barrel out. Removed the plastic fascia from the dash ready for same paint as the door cards.
To do this week;
Remove starter motor and replace all the contacts with a repair kit
Spray door cards and fascia
Fit new lock barrels all round.
I fitted a new fuel pump 2 months ago, and was working great, the fuel gauge has an intermittent fault with the correct level, Ive finally got it down to the fuel pump sender on the float. Bad news is I riveted the floor down and also tiger sealed it. I didnt cut a hatch out so if I want to fix it, its another £60 for the fuel pump ad a day taking the floor out. AHHHHHH

Used the little “mud ball” today:):)
Had to pull the Dodge out as it wouldn’t start this year, petrol pump seems problem.

Anyway it’s off to somebody else tomorrow as it’s done it’s job.
But at least the 90 got used and feels loved again:D

Went to change the front shocks, as still got a death wobble despite changing near enough everything else, took the near side turret off and noticed the hidden part of the brake line was a bit corroded. So I gave it a little scratch with my finger nail and it started weeping brake fluid! Yay! Another feckin job.

That run into Henley deserves a decent set of brakes otherwise you’ll end up in the pub lounge.

They wouldn’t let the Landy in the lounge, would have to be the Public Bar.

there are always gleaming 90xs in all the car parks in Henley none of which have ever seen mud. Often see them in the Waitrose car park over my way - gun metal grey.

Finished fitting the steering box, had to wait until I could get to a supplier to get some replacement bolts as I managed to shag a couple getting them off.
Pleased to say steering has been transformed, almost a pleasure to drive now. Also the squeeling has all but gone, only happens if I put it hard onto full lock, next order for Paddocks will include a new pump pully, old one is a bit worn.

I've swept all the cobwebs off it and removed the battery ready to see if it will charge. Oh, and I hoovered the battery box.

I took off the TD5 starter (a lot easier than I thought it was going to be) and got it on the bench. I then replaced all the all the connectors inside. Dead easy job. I had been getting an intermittent click with the starter. However it turns out that whilst the connectors were worn and probably needed doing when I was putting the starter back on, the positive cable from the battery which connects to the starter was all corroded and came away in my hands. I think that's been the problem all along. So I had an old batter terminal connector that I managed to fit and it started first time.

Im going to replace the cable from the battery to the starter, however when I look on www.lrworkshop.com/diagrams there are several types ranging from £150 to £10. I think its only 2 metres, does anyone have any idea which one I need for a 2000 TD5. Thanks

What a product Friday afternoon/evening. Enamel painted the new YRM laser cut floors...whilst doing this, a delivery man appeared with the Dinitrol chassis and underbody kit! So pressed on and Dinitrol'ed the whole underside with two coats [had steam cleaned the underside some weeks ago...] Impressed with ease of application. Only one slight problem...in my enthusiasm I forgot to put on a set of hooded coveralls...my favourite overalls are now Dinitrol mullered and I have Dinitrol'ed my forehead and hair, above the oversized goggle area. Have no idea how I'm going to wash out the Dinitrol...

In other news and as a share, I use Gerson 2K twin filter masks...they're superb at both particle gas/odour filtration and especially good with naughty chemicals like isocyantes. Here's what's left after underbody spraying...

eta: the inside of the outer filters are still spotlessly clean

Still good for the Tescos run then ...

At least you weren't using red oxide, you'd look like Hannibal Lecter after ... :D

Finally finished the door card and dash refurb. Really pleased with the vinyl dye spray that I used. Door cards had all the clips replaced. A very enjoyable job. The eagle eyed out there might notice the use of wing eyebrow clips for the fascia fixings. I thought I would make the cabin more industrial looking and Ive changed all the screws that are black with stainless ones so that they are visible.

Better than the starter motor refurb on Thursday as at least I can see my hard work now!!

Really nice job. Only spoiled by your poor choice in football teams ;):D
