Recently fitted a fbh over ride remote which iv only tested after fitting.
Used it this morning in the frost to warm the engine and car up.......nice.
Hi, did you have a faulty sender originally & put a on/off switch on the dash? My Freelander 1 has a FBH fitted & it's started cutting in now we've had this cold spell (like you say they are brilliant) but I've noticed a couple of times it's cut in above the 4 degrees it's meant to so I was going to either replace the sender, fit a timer unit (depending on cost) or do as you have put a manual switch in. Unfortunately my D2 doesn't have one fitted.:(

No my fbh heater was working fine this year after I fitted a new battery earlier in the year, last year it wasnt working due to a weak battery.
This remote just over rides the car I can turn it on 30 mins before I want to use it so its completely defrosted and warm before I get in it.
 
Started to replace the front drive hub, took hours removing the back bolts hammering a 14mm socket on instead of the original 15mm needed due to the rust. Then taking ages removing said bolt from socket and repeat.

also made a start replacing brake hoses for braided goodridge ones and front to back brake hoses on top of chassis, not looking forward trying to re route new ones.
 
Got my sloppy steering sorted. Ball joints were ok, it was the box moving! Tightened that up, but the drop arm was also loose. Knocked back the locking washer to find the nut basically loose. So a new washer and nut (tight this time) and it's as good as Landy steering can be.

Also started making up a couple of panels to weld in to the front wheel arches. Getting there!
 
I illuminated the fr. & rr. sunroof switches today but I think the LEDs I used might be a bit bright for night driving (I'll find out when I get this project on the road) so I'll try a bit of thinly spread black paint on the LED to see if this tones it down.

Refitted my 6 Disc CD player and Pioneer Amp under the passenger seat and wired it up,
Fitted a new clutch slave cylinder as the old one had started to weep,
Then spent a couple of hours trying to bleed the system, gave up! New Clutch master
Cylinder on order :mad: finished off fitting the alarm system :)

So I decided to tackle the 'empty' reading fuel gauge problem today. Removed all the necessary trim & made sure I cleaned around the fuel pump & pipes including the fragile clips as best I could, see pics. I should of used my air line as well, as once the pump was out it still had plenty of crud round the top. I was chuffed I didn't break any pipe clips ! As you can see the sender unit track is cattled hence the zero reading all the time. It's a VDO pump & probably the original but as it's done 166,000 miles do I just replace the sender unit or the complete pump ? As I've said previously this is a project & I'm not sure if it has any running problems (it drove ok for the 3 mile journey home back in June). It starts first time every time & shows no faults on my Foxwell 530. I still have to do the ex. studs, discs & pads all round, drive shaft & transfer box oil seals & get the rear chassis quarter done (the only job I can't do myself) so if I can get away with just replacing the sender it will enable me to get the chassis done sooner rather than later. So any idea on pump life ?

Replace the clutch master and slave cylinders today, bit of a pig to bleed but at least she now moves

After spending a few days fixing some known issues such as bearings and play in the steering. It took a few days as I don't have a garage and had to work between the rain storms, I took my 98 300tdi for its mot today which it failed on some rust near rear os suspension mount. Which means after a trip to my local welding garage on Monday it will be road legal again. Obviously there were a handful of advisories such as all tyres protruding from the wheel arch ( i could always remove the 45mm spacers before the retest), the back light that needs thumping to make it work and my loose battery. On the whole though I'm happy knowing it will be 99.9% road legal again next week. Happy days.
 
Took my d1 300tdi for some welding to the off side boot floor around the wheel arch today all done and coated for 100 notes( seamed very reasonable to me) followed by popping to get it retested. Now i have a 12 month mot again. Woohoo. I'd forgotten how much of a head turner the old girl is. There's still a few jobs to do but its a rolling project again. Happy days.

Luckily we've had no rain here so I've managed to refit my fuel pump with it's new sender after I'd checked the resistance readings with the chart that SF sent me & they were spot on (full & empty) As it's Xmas I treated the pump cover to some new s/s screws :D
 
Refitted the half shaft and new brake discs, new stainless flexible brake lines also fitted,
Will be rebuilding the callipers with stainless pistons tomorrow,
Still have the other front and both backs to do but got the whole week in my man cave to
Sort it:)

Found my TD5 is making a grumbling noise when I take off the power, could be prop bearings, gearbox or transfer box.... but as its snowed, theres no chance Im getting under it yet....
