Last week had the great pleasures of replacing the steering bars and the alternator.

Uneven wear on one front tyre led me to take her in for tracking; garage spent an hour trying to free up the rusted bars to no avail. Spent over an hour and half a can of WD40 to loosen all the bolts (mostly on just one of them - was genuinely sore the following morning) only to have to take her to the garage anyway as I couldn't get the swing (and don't have a suitable 'amer) to free the ball joints.

Then the alternator packed in just as we were setting off for a weekend away. Had to push her off Tesco forecourt to jump start and get home. Man is that a pig of a job to replace!

Oh, and the battery is a gonner too...
 
I literally only ever have to unplug and replug the one under the passenger seat and it goes away...

cheers mate, I’d already tried connectors under both front seats, but after your message I went out first thing and tried again...

Waiting to install a Viofo A129 Pro Duo Ultra HD Dash camera that my wife surprised me with. I’ve been wanting one of these since our traffic scam incident last year in Ipswich. The driver in a gray Ford Escort pulled in front of my car, immediately hit the brakes (With no one in front of him), put their car into reverse and bumped into the front of my car. Three migrants (?) immediately jumped out and said In very bad broken English we rear ended them. I pointed to my windscreen and lied saying I have the whole crash recorded. They immediately jumped Back into their car and sped off but luckily I remembered their plate number which turned out to not belonging to the car.

Be careful out there....
 
Spent all week rubbing down and prepping the Body, Completed the respray with just a few runs, still loads of flatting to do with a good compound after, never seems to end,
This morning removed both the N/ S doors to paint the door jams, what a palaver, had to use the engine hoist to get the front off its hinges,

Replaced the drivers side door lock(new) as it wouldn't open with the fob & the window regulator/motor( second hand but genuine) as the motor on the pattern one had given up the ghost. Managed to unseize the rear wiper motor spindle from the plastic bush, drilled several holes in the plastic bush & soaked it in oil for a week ! It works a treat. (Even though I'd got a replacement I didn't want to be beaten):D
 
Here's a picture of the bracket I had to attach(after tapping a 6mm thread) to stop the plastic bush/spacer from turning after I broke the lug freeing it off.

picked up a second hand rear wiper motor yesterday as the current one is knackered.

that’s the next job! Waiting for some red trim clips lol

Hi, if you have a plastic trim removal tool & are careful, the door card comes off quite easy without breaking the clips(unless someone has weakened them before). Just be careful with the card itself as it is just thin hardboard (hard not being the operative word) & is easily damaged.

Which is why i always drive with a real dash cam nowadays. Sad isn't it?
 
Removed n/s rear wheel as it was losing a small amount of pressure. I picked all the stones from the tread to see if I could hear any hissing (I couldn't) so I cleaned the wheel(not bad for 166,000 miles),checked the valve & inside & outside beads with water where I noticed a few bubbles on the inside bead so I took the loose wheel to a tyre place where they cleaned the rim, refitted the tyre & rebalanced it.

Just replace the clips Mike, they will be brittle. PM with your location in Staffs, Im near Stafford if you need a Nanocom.
 
Attached the fuel pressure tester I bought on Ebay for £16 inc postage... I have 4 bar, so my issues are not fuel pump related...

I did see some posts from members, saying there are not the correct parts in the cheap tester kits to test a TD5. Not true, just needs a little imagination. Take off the fuel temp sensor, with a 19mm ring spanner, then fit the parts in the picture below....
