Happy new year everyone! Still counts I guess, and I have a good excuse in case it's too late! ;-)

Well, today I had a call with the guy working on the old lady. As it seems right now, the timing is good, and despite being a bit tight, the hydraulic lifter should be fibe as well. The carbs in the other hand are worn out, impossible to get the idle revs down to below 1.1 k. So off to the UK for a full rebuild they go. Cheaper than some other carb set-up, and I know what I do with those dual zenith ones. Hopefully, I get her back one day!

Other than the carbs, the engine is fine now, plenty of power I was told! Which is great!

Ooh these are nice👌😎

I know, but a bit expensive. And I read that they have some issues when they are angled to much. Plus, I basically pulled the Zenith ones appart in the desert once, and I get them calibrated well enough to pass emission tests. Maybe one day... Propably not, but who knows! IF I do that, she will also get new cylinder heads!

Well, another benefit of the Zenith ones is how easy it is to fit a snorkel to them!

It's actually one part, the carb feeds both sides of the engine. The other carbs the stromberg cd175's with the emission controls are an absolute arse especially if the little coffin shaped air adjustment has been played with🤯
Are these the carbs you have?

Plus the butterflies have little poppets that are known to stick open giving a lean/raised idle, these are usually soldered shut!!

After 6 months of owning my RRS I took it for its MoT and it passed I was pleased because I've not been under it or done anything to it yet, so first on the list is the tyre tread is lower than I like so they are being replaced then the tow-bar needs to be sorted as have got a fixed one to fit as there wasn't a removable hitch with the car

Mine's still with the garage down the road, I managed to find some O rings in my collection that will hopefully fit the bottom hose adaptor! LR don't sell them as spares, you have to buy the octopus of bottom hoses for over £500!! I've got hundreds of O ring selections, but never the right size for the job. This time maybe.

Remembered the 'winter wiper park position' setting, very handy to stop the wipers freezing to the screen.

The L322 has heating elements in the black border at the bottom specifically for the wipers which are controlled by the same parameters as the heated mirrors- but that doesn't keep the wipers as toasty, ice free and flexible as moving them to the visible lower part of the screen, they (apparently) work better with the reduced snow load, and yes, I've got a heated screen too ;)

But what happens when they are frozen to the window when you get in? You can't use the heated screen without the engine on and as soon as you put the ignition on the wipers will try and move, either stall or rip the wiper?

So far, a well planned use of the FBH timer or remote has dealt with the ice, although if there were any unplanned journeys, I'm sure I'd manage to turn the auto wipers to off before starting the engine - the setting just changes the park position, they don't stop mid-sweep and resume from there when the car is started unless the sensor determines there's something worth wiping, they still do the 'full' wipe arc, just come up a bit to the warmer park position.

Ah ok assumed it was ignition trickery. An L405 feature?
