Sorry, open what and how do I close the injectors one at a time

Open the injectors one at a time then close after a few seconds to displace any air in the high pressure pipes. Back off the nut on the injector fractionally until you get steady airless fuel. then nip back up. Do them all one at a time. You may like to have a rag available to soak up the ejected fuel.

Took the car to Bolton this morning, on the way there it was ticking over badly and smoking .after about 4 miles it cleared and is at the moment running better than ever. Thanks for the help.

same again this am rough tickover on start up but smoothed out after about 2 miles. 50 mile run today so please keep your fingers crossed for me. I will wave as I go past Preston, so keep a lookout Wammers.

You may have a sticky injector, try some injector cleaner in a low tank for best effect. See if that helps.

I know someone who used to pour some diesel out of the fuel filter and then top it up with Redex and run that through. I don't know if it is a good idea but he seemed to get away with it.

Some of the injector cleaner you can buy seems to work. But works better in a low rather than full tank.

  1. Well managed the run to Lancaster . again rough tickover for 5 mins then ok. Motorway @ 70 on cruise running well but only showing 18 to the gallon on computer.(usually 22) I am wondering if, now I have set the camshaft to the correct position, the pump needst to be moved and if that will improve fuel consumption and running. Temperature remained just below 12 o,clock and car felt good. Checked engine on arrival and no oil, water or diesel showing, but will check again in the morning when the engine is cold. your thoughts would be appreciated. will try injector cleaner when tank is low (full at the moment)

What did you set the FIP to, 0.90mm or 0.95mm? If it fixes itself then I doubt it is the pump moving, more likely to be something electrical that has been disturbed like the wire to a sensor. The fuel consumption is odd though. Guess you could retime the pump again. I found it tried to move as I tightened so it was rather fiddly.

He didn't he removed the head no need to touch the pump timing.

no,i did not touch the pump. I dont want to make it worse, but I am trying to understand the difference between cold engine running and warm. If it was electrical,I would have thought it would have been either permanent or intermittent. This seems predictable

Parked up on clean concrete overnight, no sign of any oil or diesel drip. I will try to use Injector cleaner when tank is low.
