if the icelandic goverment keep their "superb" job ongoing, can I then move into your garage with my landy? It's a bit rusty so I'm pretty sure I can fold it up in a suitcase.

well take all the good bits off and il get yer another motor once yer over hear ! ;)

not had much time to update pics as i int don nothing apart from a bit of ordering of parts etc, buying paint and so on , mot really mutch to tell, will be back on it again when work slows down again .
 
right, after doing nothing at it fer weeks, i decided to clean the bores up tonight with the glaze buster, ready for rebuilding.

yeah , ther a consumable after all, just throw it away and use a new one.
yer right tho the wires do get everywhere, all in yer overalls, in yer hair,

have started to clean the block down to bare metal tonight, lookin good, pics to come.

have you seen those wire wheels that are impregnated in resin so that they last longer and dont shed the bristles.
 
right , done a bit over this last week or so,

right using either the rotary or stick valve grinder i lapped in the valves with course then fine cutting paste, making sure to clean it all out of the head after grinding .

sprayed the head with red oxide then frosts engine enamel,

then new valve stem seals were fitted

using valve compressor spring and washer was fitted and compressed

then clamp removed to retain collet, spring and valve in the head

then i stripped and cleaned the rocker shaft

It's gettin' there mate, just fix things now when they break. Got most of the biggish stuff outta the way. Gonna swap the roof and sides over from the white bus as it's got them alpine windows and give them a paint;):D
 
had a bit of time off work so decided to get a bit more done on the engine,
but not much time for photos today.

got hold of new ring sets ,after cleaning pistons, one piston ring set shown, broken down in to parts,

then fitted them along with the new shell bearings

then fitted the crank, with new oil seals, new bearings ,

then started to assemble the thermostat housing on the head

pump cleaned and painted, ready for fitting with new SKF bearings

then cleaned up with thinners and compressed air

checked end float of gears ,with feelers and a straight edge,

steel gear .002 - ally gear .004
clearance .003
back lash on gears .008

all were with in correct tolerences
