Hello All.
Not so much a technical query, more a lack of "official" warranted work carried out, hope somebody can clarify for me.
My Disco 4 is due belt changes ( 9yrs old & 73k recorded milage) 18 months ago I bought everything needed to complete the task, new belts, idlers, tensioners, timing kits etc etc (all Brit part & Daco).
With help, we were all set to go. The "help" can no longer partake; but have the offered help of a mechanic if needed.
I now believe the on-line service record can only be accessed by a Dealer or approved independent garage, to update service data.
What, if anything, can prevent me from carrying out this task; & providing all the evidence, if required, part No.s, & receipts, final torque's, mileage at the time photographs etc etc.
Thanks in advance Mick.

A near 10 year old car will be fine with a receipt for the parts, with the date and mileage fitted written on the receipt.
It's often better to have owner / enthusiasts maintenance records rather than dealer records anyway, as dealers work isn't particularly good, at least not the vehicles I've worked on with supposedly dealer only maintain.

Depends if you are keeping the motor, 10 yr old d4 is still worth a few quid, so if selling the buyer might prefer to see a garage receipt than take your word for it, if you are keeping it then crack on.

Do not forgot at that age a belt failure and the replacement engine done at a garage could be equal to the cost of the car.

Nodge68.
Thanks for your very helpful reply, just what I was hoping for. I wasn't sure of what wasn't "officially" recorded wouldn't be worth anything.
I have had the car nearly 7yrs, mostly towing a 1.8Ton caravan.
its been fully serviced, plus my replacing door latches, track ends, rear discs, shoes & pads, front pads & 2 sets of tyres.
It is in top order & no intension of selling yet.
Thanks again. Mick

Hi Lynall.
Many thanks for your reply, wise words indeed. I really appreciate the common sense advice that always forthcoming on this site.
It was the original owner that I bought from, a local, so it has still be serviced at the same garage, I am fully prepped for the job and it will be done with great care (asap) but it won't be up for sale any time soon.
Many thanks again. Mick

Hi @micknkazzyfonce

also wished to agree what others have said , ^^^ , I’m a D3 owner so indeed as ur doing all the work yourself u then know 100% it’s been done correctly along with peace of mind

plus your be very surprised of so many who buy a D3/4 and expect to run them on a shoestring

Massive credit to u mate as it sounds like ur D4 has wanted for nothing , like all of us owners we always ensure things are done at the slight indication if something it amiss

happy travels

Personally, when I buy a car I like to see receipts for parts that the owner has fitted or had fitted. I dont trust comments in the service log that garages have made claiming this, that and the other has been replaced. You cant even trust them to change the oil filter on a standard service.

Thanks a lot.
I have a great offer from a local garage, he wouldn't install parts as he couldn't warrant them, perfectly understandable. But offered me the use of a 5te lift to park on when its free for a couple of days (of course I will be happy to pay something,) the car will be inside, and overnight if need be, plus some help if needed. What a gent.

Thanks for replying, I totally agree, there have been times when I have wondered if something out of site had actually been changed.
Cheers. Mick
