its getting there, got rings so engine can go together this week once I have some moly paste then it'll be ready to run once the headers arrive

Hence the need for ye to be looking at pegged reverse cut HD cwps so then :D

Does anybody know if you can get the 3.5:1 HD crown wheels for the rear salisbury axle? I've a Trutrac and Detroit locker to go into mine and wouldn't mind upgrading the cwps at some point especially when I go for more power again so want to make sure the bits are available for both diffs if I want to get a reverse cut 3.5 for the front.

Love this build btw!

Looking good sam..wish I had the room to be able to do this kinda stuff lol..I m also wanting to take mine off the road and sort all the wiring out cos since swimming iv lots of bits that do t work as they should but hwy ho...next job for me is move fuel tank again re do boot floor and put roll cage in thats all to be done shortly..then its save save save for lockers

There is a difference between Dr Evil and Mr Noisy!

Dr Evil is building a big output BIG displacement motor using god knows what collection of lorry parts

Mr Noisy (whose thread this is!) has a wheezy stock 3.5 rover, but is upgrading to built Ashcroft axles to avoid future mishaps and/or allow me to push the envelope further in future.

Regards Salisbury, they are generally not modified.

You can't get bits for them but they do tend to be strong, and if you replace the 2 pin with a locker you'll have a strong axle.

Not as good/replaceable/serviceable as a fully built rover axle but not far off and around a grand cheaper.

You will probably go a long way before you start lunching the crownwheel in a stock Salisbury, but I guess cross that bridge when you come to it.

Cheers! :)

Thanks pal, yeah I'm so lucky to have the workshop, it's the make or break with things like this.

Swimming is killer, ruins and/or makes a mess of everything, I love it but I have to avoid the water, just too much devastation!

All the best :)

If you look at my thread (king cab one in sig) you'll see the crown wheel and half shaft measurements of a sals VS stock Rover axle and then my Dana

You wont munch a sals as Noisy has said :) or you'd be pretty hard pushed to with a standard Rover engine :D

Erm yes big displacement is correct :D I may buy a stroker crank too seeing as I has a little cash atm ;) bring it up another few CI to a 7.7 I think

Anyway PM inbound as promised keeping you in the loop :tea:

That's confirmed then.

Put a locker in a Salisbury and you're strong and cheap. Downsides are awkward diff fitting, weaker axle casing and less diff clearance. Upsides are good and cheap.

And yeah thanks! But it shall be beer :5bcheers2:

What does she redline at with stock crank?

The motors in the boat are 4200 i think, gayyyyyyy.

Stroking it ooo matron will make it even worse! Unless I'm wrong and should have been unleashing more rpms all these years :(

Regularly take my 3.5 hair dryer up to 6000, well up for it now the clockwork spark generator is in the bin :)

You'll easily see 6000 - 6500 redline with a 454, the block is whats known as square so the bore and stroke are very close to each other and they seem to love being revved if you look at the hot rod forums :)

Just did some google

Yeah it seems even with the 3/8 rod bolts they are ok with 6500

I guess the problem in a boat is you are not at the redline to shift, you are simply flat out, until you run out of space or fuel sometimes!

Turns out the mercruiser ignition system had a limiter around 5050rpm

Never took ours over 4200, gutted man!

Having said that, it could be 5050rpm safe limit for continuous use OR it could be a limit to protect the outdrives rather than the actual engines

Anyway I can tell you that two BBCs running side by side at high rpms develop some kind of a harmony and it is quite a wonderful thing

Seriously looking forward to snap crackle and pop on yours :D

Anyway bedtime!

I has hd rod bolts for mine but it'll never see anything above 5500 :)

catch you later mate, will let you know when the engines ready to start being assembled

You monster! I never rev mine above 3500ish! The poor thing

Pah! Monster what what, get that baby on song, although i do appreciate the upper rev range is considerably less rewarding without megasquirt, having decent timing really opens up the motor.

Either way, rover blocks are cheap you can afford it to live fast die young :p

It's on my wish list.. might end up doing it at some point, but for now the archaic dizy shall suffice!
