Warrior was selling his detroits.

Yeah I mean you do NEED lockers believe me, you don't have to fit shafts and stuff but the problem is that when putting expensive stuff in an axle with cheap stuff, if you break the cheap stuff (you will) it could lunch the expensive stuff

This is why I've got pegged with HD CWP

Don't want to risk the diff by cutting corners.

But that gets dear!

Anyway mate advice always available FOC in this thread so feel free to think out loud :)

Having said that I had 2xARB in for about 3 years with stock 10 spline shafts and didn't break anything, twisted a couple of shafts but never broke.

And that includes bouncing the bastard up dry Stile End flat out fully locked with extra red mist, probably the hardest time it's had.

I do have a theory though that 10 spline shafts are more springy and better quality than many 24 spline shafts in current circulation though as so many people use pattern 24 whereas 10 are always original.

So, stick to 33" on original LR shafts and you'll probably be just fine.

I am staying with 33" but now I'm on these pitbulls I've got much more scope to drive it a lot harder and not worry, broke it second time out on these new tyres you see but probably did the damage first time out cos it failed after 30 seconds in November.

Once my D2 owes me a bit less road mileage it'll be getting 35's, HD shafts, and Ashcroft lockers. Probs be a couple of years yet, next big job after the g&t box rebuilds is galv chassis.

Morning pals :)

Early start today, did a bit of tweaking/corrosion preventing on the new diff then wrapped it up, will be months before it goes in the axle and gets any use :(

Sorted out a little problem regards wiring through the bulkhead I wasn't happy with, opened the hole up slightly and added some rubber wrap to protect the wires, kinda bodged the wires through before with no real protection, naughty naughty...

You can just see the rubber sheath with cable tie around it. 'be reyt :p

Aaand here's the new transfer case, steam cleaned and ready to strip down. It's a suffix F so a few subtle differences to the suffix C and D I've had on the bench before. Think I'll throw an Ashcroft ATB centre diff in this so more pics to follow on that build.

Anyhoo, bacon Butty time then on with the job :)

P.S. Bit of engine bay porn in case you didn't see it at the show :D

Sam what's your day job. :O I'm in the trade and can't afford to spend cash like you haha.

Looking good though. I may have missed it but you going front or rear with that diff.

Hi dude

Day job is car sales, and associated repairs in that there workshop which you lot see so much of :p

Dont get much money coming in really but since 1st January (get the party month boxed off) if decided to basically out aside as much as I can to get the car properly sorted, this means being a bit of a hobbit, no casual pub trips, clothes shopping or anything, just saving as much as possible to get the car done as best as necessary as soon as possible.

Won't lie, it's grinding my gears cos it's been constant for 3 months and there will be long period of time, around 6 months I reckon, to get the money together to build the transfer case properly and buy the rear diff. That would take it to almost a year out of action.

If I get some decent "extra-curricular" work in these next few months I can get more in the pot more quickly otherwise it's just the constant dribble.

The current diff was made available to me without me asking as such so that's why I've ended up with it on it's own, otherwise I would have waited and bought them both together.

This is the reverse cut crownwheel so it is for front axle fitment only, UNLESS you fit a rear engine in which case your front diff goes to the rear and vice versa.

If nothing else I hope that people reading this thread get chance to see some stuff that they might not otherwise be able to.

There are lots of people spending 10 fold on racers to what I am on this disco but they don't usually have a nice little build thread so you can't see what's going into them, so hopefully it's worth the effort for more than just me getting my car fixed :)

Cheers, Sam

I may be just about to bag a V8 drive train for peanuts, tbox with CDL, and autobox... keep your fingers crossed for me :D

Resale of the autobox should cover all my rebuild part costs.

Sam what happened to you original box?

How much u wanting for the box?

Some might say auto box is the better option, I'm very on the fence, economy is the biggest concern, plus manual is better at extracting all 160 horses of course :p

Fingers are crossed. Are you considering converting to the fuel of the gods?

Nope, just after the tbox, the rest is to sell on. Will PM regarding the autobox if I secure it. My TD5 is at ~ 200 Horses so I don't want to downgrade :D
