I rekon I'll be going for the bfg's then. shouldn't rub with 30mm spacers,so won't need the -32mm offset modulars will I?!
 
The bighorn will be a great tyre

I had great success with the buckshot but they just weren't grippy enough without the side tread

The BFG is the daddy of mud terrain tyres, not sure if it actually performs better though :p

Regards wheels you should really fit 10" for 12.5 tyres but you can get away with an 8"

What rims are you thinking? What have you got now?
 
Got 265 75 16 insa's on now special track. Brilliant tyres but a pig on the road, bit small an put a hell of a lot of strain on diffs, half shafts, etc when they dig in. Was going to get full set of tyres on 15" modulars 12.50 wide.
 
i went went for 285/75/16 insa's on -35 rims(so 33"-34"x 11") coming down from my 35" bfg's as a there far too expensive b there a bit on the large size do use the car on the road but have a mate who had them and did the same with no issues slightly smaller tyre lo

ps envious of your disco love watching this evolve thats the only word for it

well, this is a point in current contention.

its not the stub axles that seem to suffer but the swivel balls

i have now sheared two off





if you scroll back a few pages you'll see i have now sourced some original LR chrome balls instead of the potentially suspect aftermarket teflon balls i was using

only time will tell whether the problem is now solved

but yes you are right, do not underestimate the strain low offset wheels are putting on certain components.
 
Maybe -50 is too much then. Ill stuk with either 30mm spacers or -32mm off set. Can't see it making any difference which one so might aswel get offset modulars an flog the spacers.
 
Always better to have correctly offsetted wheels than having spacers fitted

If nothing else, it's much easier to access the drive flange for shaft changes etc without spacers, in fact sometimes you can't even get the flange off with spacers on. Bad news :(

Regards offset, yeah I think you'll get away with 10" -32, it will certainly be less troublesome than the setup I am using, will be interesting to see how you get on though.
