Going to the Peterborough show next weekend hopefully we will find a better bulkhead that doesn't need as much work doing to it as the original one does and get that one repaired instead and mite look out for some van sides aswell as although its got windows in the side ( made to fit ) the 2a was originally a van so we have decided to go that way and keeping it looking original :)

Didn't get a bulkhead from Peterborough as they was either already sold or they was either to expensive for what they was or like what we already had :(

Son eventually got round to ordering the bits he was going to order a few weeks ago the other day and they have started to arrive so hopefully we can get the gearbox sorted and in and start work on doing work on the Defender 200tdi engine that's going in it from my 90 in the next week or so

Took the gearbox to a mates last weekend for him to rebuild for us whilst I start work on the TDI engine, so depending on what the engine needs we should be able to fit them in soon.
son was off last weekend too so him and his missus fitted the new fuel tank then dragged all the bodywork in from outside to strip the lights and badges off to take to her dads to prepare everything ready for paint :D

Forgot to say son was off last weekend too so him and his missus fitted the new fuel tank and brought all the bodywork in to remove all the lights and badges off ready to take to her dads to prepare everything ready for paint but when the tub is back we will need to replace the X members as they are all rotten :(

Getting the g/box back from my mates on Saturday so hopefully should have it fitted on Monday, got the engine on the bench ready for stripping, probably start doing it after fitting the g/box :)

Didn't get anything done last weekend as I ended up working so I will fit the gearbox in this weekend and start stripping the engine aswell :)

Didn't get anything done today recovering from a cold and next to no heating in the garage but seriously thinking of getting a log burner in now, just working out what size kw wise to heat up an 18'3" x 18'6" garage, anyone got any idea's

It depends on the heat losses of the garage, but anything will be better than what you have now.

Yeah I have been using a Honeywell 3000w electric heater but it's useless and very heavy on electric, admittedly there are a few draufts I need to sort out mainly around the bottoms of the double doors but a couple of decent draft excluders should sort that and get a log burner in something like a 5-6 kw burner

Hopefully next week I will be able to get back into the tdi engine I have part stripped on the bench as I have been battling this cold for the past 3 weeks then when Christmas is over and done with I will order a log burner and everything I will need to install it into the garage to keep me nice and warm in the future :)

Off work this week so today I removed the cylinder head, timing case, sump and ladder frame, checked the bearing caps and pistons for play and couldn't find any, really pleased so tomorrow I can start cleaning the engine down were we couldn't get with the jet wash and start building it back up obviously with new gaskets and seals aswell as a Disco timing case ready for fitting into the chassis :)

Sorry its took so long but here are some pic's of the engine so far, the damaged Def timing case has now been replaced with a Disco timing case but everything else is staying as it

Today I fitted the adaptor plate and clutch assy, new timing belt kit, sump and ladder frame before all this, just got to fit the head yet

A couple of pic's of the battery tray after my attempt to cut it down to get the tdi engine in and although it doesn't tough it is still close so will need a bit more trimming off if not I mite lob it off altogether and fit the battery under the seat

As you may have read in my new series thread ( What have I done ) I am taking this project on as my own and selling the 90 so watch this space

This is the plan, its going to be used as a road vehicle only so no big tyres, loud exhaust or a winch so the plan is
1, Replace the new std springs for Parra's inc shocks
2, Fit front Disc brakes.
3, Fit a Steve Parker full exhaust ( 200tdi )
4, Fit L.E.D. lights and Crystal clear headlights.
5, Fit Defender cloth seats with 4 x rear side facing rear seats with belts.
6, Fit a full safari roof inc double roof and 3 new doors.
7, Repaint it in Limestone as it is now.
8, Replace the tyres for something like Insa turbo sahara's or similar.
What do you think :D

Hopfully work will start on the 90 next weekend which inc's painting the refurbed bulkhead and replacement roof ( smooth ) then once they are painted and out of the way we will remove the old roof and stuff then start removing the old bulkhead swapping everything over to the refurbed bulkhead then once that's done fit the new bulkhead and replacement roof and get the 90 ready to sell then once its sold I can then start work on the 2a which will start with a bit of re-work as originally the 2a was for selling and a lot of stuff was replaced with BP parts and as I am keeping the 2a for myself now I am replacing all the BP parts with decent parts and have given myself 12 months to complete all being well :D

That didn't happen yesterday as whilst out getting the paint we needed for the 90 son rang me to say he has got chance of 150 flag stones we desperately need for free so got back home loaded the trailer on and with sons van aswell got 50 of them in 2X loads of 25, 10 in the 90, 10 in the trailer and 5 in sons van the once we had what we needed we rough laid them as it now makes life easier when driving in and out of the garage and maneuvering stiff like my trailer where I want it so tomorrow we will do as we said we would do yesterday tomorrow, then once the 2a is done we will re-lay them properly :)
