No proper parking at mums so needs to find me a flat place to do my swivel housing oils as they're getting old now and I really ought check and adjust my wheel bearings too.

Anyone done the fleece & resin moulding thing? Saw a youtube video on it yonks ago and can't find it now.

Saga started with the alternator deciding to start over charging and I had to pull up on the side of the A27 and cut the belt, ordered a new belt and alternator, quick fit and jobs a good un.

Then came the next problem, head gasket decided it was time to expire.

Blown between 3 and 4 letting exhaust gasses into the coolant.

Sourced a "known to be good" second hand head, some ball ache that was, won't go into it, it annoys me.

IMG-20200630-WA0012.jpeg

Injector pullers, fuggin amazin bits of kit, I'd drowned my injectors in diesel for a week and they just "popped" out on the first knock, brilliant, worth their weight in solid gold.

IMG_20200702_195923.jpg

Park up in the kitchen with tea and biscuits and lap the valves in.

20200703_222633.jpg

New valve stem seals going on.

IMG_20200704_105906.jpg

Valve spring compressor, another tool worth it's weight in gold.

IMG_20200704_110826.jpg
IMG_20200702_232358.jpg

All the valves in and ready for refitting.

IMG_20200704_114227.jpg

The rebuild including setting valve lash and putting the glow plugs back in, left them out deliberately while I was setting the valve lash, smart thinking not fighting the engines compression.

IMG_20200704_215136.jpg

Brilliant, it fired up after a few turns and boom happy me, Sunday morning set off for 320 mile round trip + running around and fook my luck, radiator decided it was also time to expire.

Cheers man :)

I'm paranoid and I fitted gauges so I can observe what is going on and It went from all fine and dandy to the needle off the gauge at 18V+ on the Chichester bypass, been one thing after another just lately, new radiator winging it's way to me as I type so that should satiate the beast for a while, big ticket items on the bill this year.

You started your RRC restoration yet?

Had a Nissan pickup that we delivered hire bikes in Vilamoura Algarve...one day in the Marina a hell of a rotted egg smell put it down to marina and drains...got back to shop smell even worse...popped bonnet and battery was effing hot and looked like a rugby ball!!...alternator fecked but under gaurantee still lost 2 days business though luckily was not fitted by me but the garage who fitted it took them 2 months to get money back...

Good to see you back & doing repairs already o_O:D

Wtf. Just keeps rolling doesn’t it.
I haven’t done anything on my d1 that’s made a dent in recent weeks due to the td5 giving me so much problems. I’ve broken down twice in a month in the thing and dare I say it wonder if I should have even bought it. I hope I’ve just been a bit unlucky as I’m losing td5 faith massively!
I did my stem seals etc on my d1 too but to be honest I’m going to pull the whole engine, overhaul and spray the bay and all welding from both sides whilst there.
All good your end? Surely a knuckle scraping day is due soon when social activity is permitted?!

No not yet mate, I'm unsure whether to even start tbh, my hearts not really in it, there's things that need attention on the Defender and that's keeping my hands full during any spare time I have atm!

We've been desperately searching for a house to buy because during lockdown we had to move out of our rented house which wasn't ideal due to landlords family matters... hate being at the mercy of someone else, and want my little one to have a proper solid base he knows is home... all of which is coming before the RRC. Tbh, I was toying with the idea of selling the shell and repair panels I've bought.... who knows, lol!

You got a "what have I done now" thread on yo Def? I must admit it's all a bit trying and testing at times and especially now when I just want a reliable car to ferry me around the country.

Oeph, that sounds like not a lot of fun at all mate, I'm shunting up and down the country at the weekends and working hard all week.

Don't sell it, you'll regret it later on, but yes the house must come first!!!

Luckily I spotted the needle in time before it got to that but it's scary stuff as a battery can turn into a bomb!!!

Didn’t do a fender thread. First day I got it all windows and curtains open with dog lose, second day security man turned up to lock it down. I may start a thread. I fitted a new fuel pump today after a non start and screaming cat noise on weds. It’s remapped but never felt like it really wanted to go. Now it pulls like it shouldn’t and you need to remember what your driving. I’ve never both hated and loved something so much lol

Is there light at the end of the tunnel o_O

Yes, it's called a train :eek::oops:

I bought me a nice shiny new radiator, aluminium one, it pretty :)

OK, got that out the way, now it's the crappy bit, turns out the oil cooler pipes are different and changed half way through 200Tdi production (I knew this, but forgot), so I have old cooler pipes and they are not at all compatible with new radiator, now I'm hunting down adaptors or I'm going to have to buy new pipes and mutilate one in order to fit them.

I know your pain

Love hate relationship with mine after injector spill pipe decided to rupture in the middle of the New Forest on Tuesday  and now the issue with the oil cooler pipe unions for the new radiator I bought
