well yes but no different than a 200

Is the auto box off a 300 mechanical operated or electrically?

I was under the impression that the 300 was electronically operated with it's own ECU unlike the auto box of a 200 that is mechanical in operation?

no, its mechanically governed, its p38 and d2 were ecu is needed
which is why they can be slow of the mark, governor works of revs, which is great with a v8 but a tdi relies on a turbo which doesnt pull in till you get the revs up by which time its changed gear, knocking off the engine revs and power

How you getting on?

Not terribly well after a bad bout of the flu I have done stuff all and it seems plans for the weekend might end up stuffed again.

Life is getting very heavy at the mo with mother in law not being well and her indoors had a call tonight saying that she might have to be hospitalised so she's anxious stressing out :(

I really have to sort my gearboxes out but this weather is gash and not at all helpful.

How you fairing?

Sorry to hear that mate...hope things turn around for the better...

Ahh sounds **** hopefully things perk up mate! I’m down around Hampshire lots and also have free weekends a lot so happy to help if you need a hand. I can deadlift a rear axle you know lol!!
I’m getting on really well with mine thanks. Wanted to ask you actually, I have a golden drip on the corner transfer box casing bolt. Is this common and would I be correct in saying it will likely be a rear input seal? I’ll rebuild handbrake when there as it’s obviously been sat. Was seized the other day so I freed up when I did prop.

Hi All...
I've got to the point where I'm not ripping stuff out anymore (for the time being) and wanting to weld stuff back in.
So I need a MIG welder. I've been told that as a newcomer to welding I should use CO2/Ar gas, but what spec of welder do I need? How many amps should I aspire to? Any advice will be of use.

I suggest this might be better as a new thread. Lots of Q’s to answer. How much can yu spend? What exactly to yu need it for? Etc.

I'm just welding replacement panels into place and reinforcing the chassis where I feel it might not be all that it should, with a budget of just a few hundred quid. I'll go and set up a new thread.

Any more news DD? How’s da family?

Family fine well sort of, her indoors is living the dream, Dottie has been SAS trained in the womb to radically alter anything she can get her paws on, mother in law in and out of hospital like a revolving door, my mum is feeding me up as I go there for dinner and the check on her as she's not been well and panicked a little over this here Cortina virus and the propaganda being pumped out daily.

James Martin has my two spare gearboxes to rebuild for me and at some point I might just get round to relaxing an not working or driving round the country :)

Rusty is running like a champ, best top up my transfer box one night this week tho!

SIP or a Clarke 150A is best, use 0.6mm wire, get bulk gas bottle from Adams gas and spend a bit of time (5 to 6 hours) practicing first, metal store .co.uk for steel, buy a sheet of 1.5mm and play away.

Thanks once again. Keep this up and I'll end up owing you a pint.

see ya soon. Full hazmat gear required and a 20sec bath ;)

T'was nice to sit and jaw over a brew or three :)

That A339, well then, it has a posted speed limit of 50mph, well I came to the conclusion that the 50mph isn't actually a speed "limit" but actually a speed "aspiration" FFS what a god awful road to drive, border line third world road surface :eek::eek:

Got me an annoying rattle from somewhere under the dash and it is bloody annoying  Need to sort that out before I spend 4 hours heading North tomorrow, still need to top up the transfer box but can do that at work lol

About to do some welding... I understand that underseal burns well. How far back, away from where I'm welding, should I remove it?
