Right, thanks all for the advice given, great help.
I have since sorted the small leak I had BUT.....
I have since done a lot of research and have realised my car NEVER, and I mean never no matter how much thrashing or driving, overheats under normal driving.
But as soon as I put a trailer on the back with some weight or I leave the car ticking over It gets very hot and overheats (since I mentioned the overheating a month ago I have not let it overheat, but the heat gauge slowly creeps up and the car is turned off, i dont let it get near the red but its heading that way, this is just shunting trailers around the yard)
From what i have read online, It seems a common problem with all range rovers no matter if its the petrol or diesel.
Once at normal running temp, I stopped the car and tried turning the viscous fan by hand which turned easily, have not yet tried stopping the fan whilst the car is running.
Does this mean that the fan is on its way out and why its over heating because its not providing enough cooling under load.
Also can it be down to the water pump? and is it possible to make sure its working without removing it?
Finally, the car has two electric fans on the front of the radiator, they never ever come on no matter how hot it seems to get, are these standard on this range rover or have they been added as after market?
If I wire these to a switch on the dash so that I can turn them when towing, does this in fact make the viscous fan redundant, ie I dont have to replace it, or does it serve some other purpose such as being belt driving anything else?
Dont be scared to get me told if i am wrong
Many thanks
