I replaced the cover due to oil leak which I thought was due to a crack in the cover....on further inspection, I think the leak was caused by a poor sealing Relief Valve cap.....so I am considering replacing the old cover and pump and see what happens!!Can you not put the old cover back on?
Feck you luck Ant, sounds like the ends have gone to me, I really hope not.
I would not know if there is a way of checking the ends or mains without dropping the caps off, Wammers may know different. How to check?? While i have the sump off, is there anyway to check with the journals in situ??
Low pressure only start once I replaced the front cover with a replacement one a few months ago...not before and was immediate on changing the cover, never has had good pressure at base idle with the replacement cover....fast idle is fine.....now I have changed the pump, very little pressure.....gonna replace the front cover with original and original pump and see what gives.....
Any guidance on checking the mains without pulling the crank apart??
Bit of an issue.....
Got in to go home at 4pm, no oil pressure, rev it hard and the light flickers on and off.....back to idle, light on, engine rattling away!!
Pinched a work van to get home so I can see Summer before bed and put the Tesco home delivery shopping away....
Gonna head back to work now and pull the front off again and replace the old front cover....
Gotta do it to night as i have a day off tomorrow for a new parent course on first aid and resuscitation so i have to get the van back tonight for work in the morrning.
Wish me luck, its gonna be a hard slog!

Correct, if the excess pressure vented to the filter it would blow the filter sealing ring. I know, the sleeve on the relief valve on a XJ40 became loose and lifted with the valve so preventing the excess pressure venting. Luckily the filter seal blew before any of the engine oil seals
19.24 clock starts!! Wish me luck
UPDATE:
20:44 Front cover is off.....oh how do i hate lying on my back undoing sump bolts....
Coffee time then inspection....
