I sent my car in for some reapers recently.
I had a knocking sound and it was traced to the nearside track rod end, so that was replaced.
But, the driveshafts were worn and one of the rubber boots had split, so they replaced them. We wanted to fit oem spec driveshafts, but could only find one side, so went for the cheap @@@ ones for the other side.
Not good. whole car vibrates when you press the go pedal. We are just waiting for an oem spec driveshaft to arrive before changing it.
It feels like something (the driveshaft) is very out of balance.
Also had the prop/VCU bearings replaced, feels better apart from the out of balance wobble.
I have some Vredestein Wintrac 4 Xtreme 215/70 R16 ties & wheels to fit to the car next week. Should be going offloading this weekend, so will keep the Grabber AT's on for that.

Looking back, the driveshafts were worn already. CV boots, well the car is 8 years and 130,000 miles young.....
The track rod end has been on its way out for a while, it is just we couldn't trace where the knock was coming from until now. I appear to be quite sensitive with these things and notice them more than the average person (mechanical engineer background).
The other track rod end was done a few months ago.
For example, the brakes work fine, but I can feel that they are not as good as they should be, so will look into replacing the calipers soon, whereas the average person will leave till they don't work!

I couldn't stop laughing when going through the mud at the end of the day

Well, I didn't notice it which is a good thing.
the towbar fixing and electrics acted as a plough judging from the amount of mud and debris behind it so would have knocked the old box had it been there.
So I guess yes.

Did I read earlier somewhere that you had this work dome athe Terrain Vehicles? If it's the same one I've used from time to time in Hastings they're really good and know their stuff.

Yep. Very happy with them. Look after you well. Recommended.
It's a 1 1/2 hour drive and 60 miles each way for me.
They understand Freelanders which is a big plus!!

They are good. I do most repairs myself, but there have been times I've needed a garage to do things (Td4 clutch and an injector, both in deep winter) and they've been brilliant. I've had parts off them before and Disco repairs when I used to have one of those. Their "courtesy car as standard" is a real bonus too. Had a nice RR Classic once which was pretty cool.

Now that the work has been done, I spent a long weekend down in deepest Devon. The car performed flawlessly. Nice and smooth. So nice to drive now.
Round trip of only 450 miles at 35mpg. Went down the A303 and came back via the M5/M4, where it was legal i was doing about about 65-70mph, so not too fast, but not at its most economical.
Devon is steep with lots of short sharp hills rarely getting out of 3rd gear as the lanes are so windy where I went!
