It actually seems ok now, no smoke when I put my foot to the floor and responive to the pedal.
It was slightly faster with the maf uplugged but sounded awful and produced lots of black smoke.

So job done then, and i presume to are running on a Bosch MAF no synergy connected at all, if so sell the synergy to someone whom doesn't mind damaging their HPFP  also make sure the air filter cover is fixed correctly at the rear

This is a good point.
They can be tricky to get back on - the only way you know for sure that it is fully seated is that the 5mm hex bolt hidden at the back goes in "relatively" easily! If you struggle getting the bolts to 'bite', it's not fully seated.

Whoever designed that bolt in that place needs lining up next to the guy who designed the fuel pump/filter bracket in the back wheel arch and....

re. filter box cover fitment ..
note the groove on left side .. it can sometimes get pinched , complicating things.
can be widened with a screwdriver ..
easier to get to the left rear bolt by 'feel' with a long handled allen head ..
noting that the rear left bolt is directly inline with the front bolt ..
[ it's still a p.i.t.a. ;-]

I disconnected the ronbox at the maf sensor but is there also another place it needs disconnecting. I just watched a video on youtube and noticed them plug sa connector and mention something about the fuel connector.

Lift the synergy from where it is and follow the conduit to where it connects to, unplug the connection's and then fit the original wiring back to the MAF.

From what you are saying above you have not completed the transition back to original stock, and you still have it connected to the fuel line.

Follow the reverse of this video.

Hi, my freelander is very slow pulling away from junctions, I just always thought it is a slow car but after googling 0-60 Realised it should be faster than my girlfriends car but it is miles slower.
I have just changed the Maf sensor and not noticed any difference but I also noticed a small box under the hood which after some googling is a synergy 2.
The switch labelled air was in the off position so I have now turned that on, and it seems to be more responsive on the pedal but I have not taken the car for a drive yet.
Could that switch being off be the cause of the slow car.
I have also bought a new pipe for the air temp sensor to replace that, I have had to buy a new plug because one of the wires broken off the sensor plug, so will solder that when it arrives.
hi i have a feeling it could be your vacuum Are the vacuum tubes the right way? As the tube comes of the vacuum pipe that goes around the back of the engine, it does not go on the front of the vacuum chamber; it goes on the back and what comes from the front of the camber goes down to the turb actuator
