Does a defender 130 have a 130" wheelbase or 127? If I wanted a 130 wheelbase I think it would be easier (from a legal standpoint at least) to just use a 130 chassis

If you want to use a 130 chassis you need it to have a log book, engine, gearbox & axles.
This will help the sva exam & registation.

A 90has 93 3/4” wheel base
RR/disco/freelander 100”
RR LSE 107”
130 has 127”wheel base

Search foley 4c4 & look at their motors

Ide just use a whole 130 and do a "body swap" and keep the defender reg, no need for IVA/SVA or anything, just MoT. (Assuming its the same colour)

Body swap shouldnt involve modifying the chassis, I dont think. But thats why Im asking here, or asking if someone has the measurement of where the bodymounts on a 130 are, or a detailed enough picture to determined if it all lines up or not

I have already said the out riggers on a landrover & discovery are different so you have to cut them off, therefore a chassis modification.
You then also need to weld body mount lugs to the chassis
Nothing on a landrover chassis will match a discovery body to fix it to
For an inexperienced person this project is beyond you. Think of something easier to start with

The point of IVA is to get registration...you can get insurance using vin only but that applys to imports...modified cars needing an IVA test means they are built up and therefore wont have insurance and after test might get a Q plate which again flags up insurance problems...IVA is not like going for an MOT as you should know being a kit car guy and no you wont be present as same as an MOT...
I'm not going to argue with you any more except to say that if you go for an MOT, you are usually sat in a room and told to stay there until the MOT is over, NOWADAYS. Gone are the days when you sat in the car working pedals, switches, turning the wheel etc. Elf an safety has put an end to all this.
BUT, after the MOT, the tester will normally talk you through what is wrong and if he is half decent he'll show you what you need to do to fix it. Even leaving it on the lift and letting you go and look at it with him.
According to the bloke who had his done and wrote about it in Pitstop, this was very similar to what he had. The blokes were very helpful showing him what needed to be done to fix it. SHOWING him, not just telling him.
IVA is not like going for an MOT as an MOT is far simpler and quicker, BUT it is similar in that there are criteria that have to be met and if all are met it passes, if they are not it fails.

If he does that it's a breach of health and safety regs...here the latter part of the inspection we as the owner are in the car operating pedals and lights etc but they use pits not ramps...but we were not talking about mot but iva and registration and I pointed out to you a vin number is not a registration as in "VIN vehicle identification number" not registration...yes you can get insurance on a vin only too take it to a booked inspection which is an iva/vosa and the only reason you would need that is because its not registerd on UK plates or has been built and modified from more than one vehicle...

As you say, there is a difference between a VIN and a registration number.
But I think the OP is a country mile away from all this detail.
He has a mountain to climb.
What I think we can both agree on is that IVA is a real cunt and totally not to be messed with unless you either know what you are doing or you have someone who does, holding your hand.

Are the body mounts all at the same height? Would it need IVAing if the original chassis outrigger was still in place and original, with some sort of additional metal added to mount the body to it? Or even just a new outrigger, without cutting the old one off?
Or is it just a complete non-starter?
Another question, something much simpler, can I put an RRC face on my disco?

Which outrigger are you talking about...an outrigger is the side member at right angles to the main chassis legs...

Yes, chassis rails run the length of the car, crossmembers go between them and outriggers go outside them. The bodymounts are on the outside of the rail, on the outriggers. So if I leave all 130 outriggers in place, and additionally weld new outriggers, with body mount, to the 130 chassis, do the IVA need to have a poke around or not?
Reason for thinking rrc face will go on D1 "easilly" is because when I looked at the panel that the lights ect mount on they look the same. Did google, found nothing
Thanks!
