No I know, to drive on the road you need tax, MoT and insurance, and if its modified outside IVA rules, then it wont pass an MoT will it? Insurance isnt an issue, its the MoT

I might call them tomorrow. I agree it would be interesting, but I HIGHLY doubt that they would be of much use.
So if I wanted to put a defender body on my disco chassis, I wouldnt be allowed? (Without IVA and Q-plate)

Would be interesting to think what questions he would ask truthfully and also his answers to their questions...

If I had a spare couple of hours id call em. probably need an doggy engineers report to go with the
half arsed build with a gasless welder & 2 tonne of catty o_O:D

DVLA not much use cause you are trying to beat the system & they will tell you the answers you
wont want to here.

Ive decided that Ill get a friend to do the welding (he can do a decent enough job, based on what Ive seen, at least its strong)
If I call that number, do I ask to speak to their resident land rover guy, or will they all know?

Your taking the p.iss now!...cops will after a couple of pings will update their data base...dvla have a dedicated LR bloke...insurance is just on-line box ticking...speak to the bodies that will tell you yes legal or no before you get your brill mate who can weld but obviously doesnt know the regs around altering structurally chassis..but he'll be good at patching up the rust...

That looks photo shopped to me the front wing is not right...
This one....

It would look alot like a defender 130 from the rear, and being pulled over isnt a massive issue if its all legal. Anyway, Im sure after the first few, they add a note to the database. Also, the number of times that Ive seen a traffic car (I dont think regular police cars have ANPR, but I may be wrong) that hasnt been otherwise occupied is very very small.
I am posting here without going to the end of the thread as it stands, but are you unaware that ANPR is on loads of static cameras all over the place?
Feck all to do with mobiles altho obvs they have it too.

Hmm. Quick question, are all 110 chassis the same? (Hi cap, SW, double cab, single cab, etc)
Strange rover looks good. I like. Looks like RRC front wings?
Insurance is a box ticking matter. It is. I was asking about the DVLA because I havnt the faintest idea how their office situation works, I thought they might have an office for say, all the most popular things, say 1 for stolen cars, 1 for insurance wright offs, 1 for classic/kit car questions ect, and within that office there might be a dude/dudette who is the kit car guy, an LR guy, and probably a few other people for the FAQ cars. But thats just a stab in the dark.
And yeah, welding mate, if his welds are strong enough for a rust repair, then Im sure theyll suffice. Hes a fully qualified engineer who fixes big oil rigs and has 3 LRs himself (110 td5, '94 rrc, '04 d2 v8) but unsupprisingly he doesnt really want to cut his up.
The idea for the project was mine, he thinks its a good idea, we agree it can be done in a safe/high quality/functional way, but if in needs to be IVAed and get a Q-plate then its going to take ages and ages and frankly I/we cant be bothered. It needs to go together and then be ready to go, not be completed and then take the best part of a year to actually get it registered etc. Also it will loose tax exemption. I should also include that Im going to be studying engineering physics and am not a deluded idiot who wriggled out of a straight jacket. And its not a mickey mouse uni, I got 7A*s and 3As at GCSE (which were pre covid, so real exams)
Thats not to brag! Ill be the first to admit that Ive got the least bit of experience and very few tools. I just want to see if theres any way to meet/twist the rules to not have to go through IVA before buying a load of tools and a lot of bits of Land rovers. I really do want to give this sort of thing a go, so Im trying every angle I can think of, and so far it seems that its all a dead no. Which is a shame, but Ill always be back when I get another idea

Okay, so I think Im right when I say that in the UK you can bolt whatever you want in terms of bumpers/bullbars (on older cars) and they bolt onto the chassis rails, everyone agree? I could be wrong again.
So, we can BOLT stuff to the CHASSIS so now, assume I take an outrigger from my disco, chop it off my disco chassis, and weld it as described (poorly) here: ]=/ so now we have an outrigger, on a C-shaped piece of metal, such that the "C" fits over the chassis rail nicely. Now, take a fully functional, roadworthy 130, and put the new thing on it. Drill holes and use big thick strong high tensile bolts to hold it in place. That defender 130 is still road legal, and would still pass an MoT wouldnt it? The other end with the body mount isnt attached to anything yet.
Then we do the body swap, wow, how convenient, the body mount on the chopped disco body lines up with this new contraption on the chassis! Bolty bolty, disco body on the 130!
If you EVER consider bolting through square section, you should tube it else it ain't as strong as you think it is!!!
I have done this for something as simple as a roll over bar on a kit car I am building.
Not that i am agreeing with anything else in your post, just pointing this out as a basic fact when it comes to safety.

Yeah static ANPR cameras cant tell what car a plate is on. The "issue" was that the camera would see a 130 and the bobby inside would see a disco
