U really need the new key , so that when it’s programmed it will over write any existing keys

Plus there is a limit of how many times u can reprogram a key

U don’t want to leave a vehicle with no key programmed into it, as if does get nicked the ins company will refuse to pay out as u left the vehicles security completely open

I was under the impression that the OP must now be using key2 so have key1 removed till key3 arrives then reprogram new key? Key 1 will have to be removed at some point.

I only asked about Gap as the bedtime reading shows you can reprogram and check how many keys in the system, Incase some valet/garage has adding another key for later not so nice reasons, but doesn’t say how to remove.
I don’t expect the OP to go out and pay £400 for diagnostics at his age( although you never know) just to do a key.

Hiya

Ah, I assumed the op didn’t have a key at all, as indeed if he did have a key by reprogramming it with an iid it would as u also say remove the other lost key

However u can’t reprogram a second hand key , so not 100% if the system will allow u to reprogram existing keys that have already been synched to the motor

I’ll do some further digging to see if that’s possible

Hi again. thank you for all your reply's and sympathy approach, Thor seemed to be under the impression I threw the key into a river or some other stupid thing. We were on a train which was delayed so missing a connection; in the hassle I forgot my shoulder bag complete with keys as the car was at home.
Back to your advice, I am using the 2nd key and will order a new key. As you say; they will then re-tune the new key and the car, making the lost key useless.
I intend to call them in the morning to see if they can re-tune my car and key 2 (after ordering and paying in advance for the spare I guess) making things safe again whilst I await the replacement. Best case would be getting the bag back and then having 3 x keys; but not holding my breath on that one.
Thanks again for you help, perfect.
Regards Mick

Ensure which key #1 or #2 you are actually using before they delete:)

Not sure how you can tell on yours? Sure the stealer can tell, but worth a check question before saying “can you delete key #1”
Oh and sit down before they tell you how much a new key is ( if you haven’t already had that shock) I don’t expect it will be cheap.

Sure, I'm fairly certain the "lost" key was No. 1 & am now using No. 2 which was the "spare". They are an independent dealership (not sure that makes any difference) and they quoted £160 + vat. Half expected it as my wife had to cough up £200 a few years ago for one.
Oh the joys eh. I changed the F/L door latch / actuator a couple of weeks ago saving £100+ labour, so kind of equalises things out.
Thanks & Regards
Mick

That’s a cheap key:) for a change. Does it include syncing and delete old?

Anyway good luck sounds like you now have it in hand:)

Now you have me worried, he was talking through everything so I did "assume" ..........but we all understand it makes an Ass out of U and Me.
Again thank you.

Hey I just thought they were more than that don’t worry, just surprised. LR product and cheap don’t usually come in the same sentence.

Is it a New one from LR? Not a secondhand of the bay? Not sure you can use a secondhand one.
Tread carefully and ask questions :) you’ll be fine.

But get the lost key removed of the car system, #1 priority for peace of mind:)

No e-bay stuff, it will be a LR genuine replacement & and all done correctly, but I'll certainly quiz them.
Thanks for your concern,
Mick
