Get a turbo timer. Just get one you can preset your own time on. i think mine in the celica goes up to 10-15 min in manual mode. you can start the car, set the timer and then remove your key from the ignition and lock her back up. they have safety features built in so if the handbrake is disengaged without the ign on it shuts the engine and if the revs go over 1500 or something like that it does the same

Your suggesting i install complicated electrics to a landy! They cant even deal with start/stop at the best of times!

ive just fitted an alarm fob start kit to td5 90 you can start it remotely while cars still locked and similar touch the brakes or hand brake etc it shuts down

Yeah ive seen the remote alarms. but the ones ive seen on some of my customers bikes annoy the hell outta me with all the chirping they do. plus ive had a few customers with non starts because of these units failing after a month or two. thats not to say yours will the car ones might be different.

And turbo timers are easy to install. with mine i bought a car specific plug and play loom that fits my hks timer to save me cutting the factory loom (for my celica not my disco). but i doubt a disco has a big demand for the timers so you would have to cut and solder your ignition wires

Plus if the disco has a immobiliser it will need to sense the chip in the key first before allowing to start. so remote would be no good in that case

What ever it's called don't do it you may get a fine.

"You MUST NOT leave a parked vehicle unattended with the engine running or leave a vehicle engine running unnecessarily while that vehicle is stationary on a public road. Generally, if the vehicle is stationary and is likely to remain so for more than a couple of minutes, you should apply the parking brake and switch off the engine to reduce emissions and noise pollution. However it is permissible to leave the engine running if the vehicle is stationary in traffic or for diagnosing faults.
Law CUR regs 98 & 107
"

That says public road. What about your own private drive way with a locked gate?

Do what you like on private ground even forget about the "reduce emissions and noise pollution" bit, don't no if the gates locked or unlocked change anything:D

i just start engine then pour a saucepan of luke warm water over the windscreen , flick the wipers to dry the screen and go.

before some grumble guts tells me ill crack me windscreen , ive been doing it for best part of 40 years and not had one crack yet.

Millions sold in USA and are a option on new cars/trucks

There is a arctic cold start for LR's that plug into main for a hot motor on start up

Yeah im not saying there all rubbish, the ones ive seen/dealt with that have the remote start etc have all been the cheapest of cheap ebay jobs that dont seem to last very long, ive had a couple that i have had in thats failed thats all, but as i say cheap universal tat, even the decent exspensive bike alarms naff up, ive removed more than ive fitted due to faults, but car alarms seem to be alot more reliable than bikes

i heard about some moosh that had that remote start gadget on his car n he left it in gear n killed someone in a car park by starting it whilst they were walking between his n another car... might be an old wives tale though

Storyies about anything is all about............. They won't start with car in gear as there are safety switches with them at stop it from happening

possible if not fitted correctly though not if

i thought as much after reading about the hand brake thing etc further up the thread... pointless having one on a disco in my opinion! some de-icer n some thermals does the trick for me!

If its too cold i'll ring a mate n use they're heated seats :p

engine preheater is a good idea though ,most wear in engine occurs at pre running temperature

scrape the window and drive away it takes a minute diesels take ages to warm up a little anyway at idle. How long do you leave you vehicle running unattended anyway?
