Not really, you may have 2,3or 4 different problems . IF it was water going down the exhaust and that has now stopped then a head gasket needed doing.
Your symptoms point to a few possible faults , including the head gasket, a compression test will narrow things down abit.
Does the smoke sting your eyes?
That points to fuel which would confirm that the 2 cylinders (which don't alter engine tone) are not burning the fuel but sending it neat down the exhaust. The fuel not burning is either an injector problem (they have been tested, all ok) or a compression problem (not tested so far)
Edit to say- this post is for the OP not in reply to Springdon.

The smoke doesn't sting my eyes no

I could make some kind of bracket or whatever to hold it from afar if needed
The injector pipe will hold it ,it's your eyes that will need to be close to see the spray pattern and the diesel coming from the injector tip is very high pressure which can penetrate your skin and even kill you.
You won't be able to tell if it looks correct anyway so my advice is don't do it.
It's a possibility that the FIP has a fault but it's more likely to be a compression problem.
Getting the FIP tested is about 3 times the cost of having all 4 injectors tested and it will need removing from the engine to test.
Get the compression test done and go from there.

Ok :)

You can yes but I'm not keen on the OP doing that at this stage due to his inexperience and the high risk of injury to himself.

Fair enough. If there is a lot of fuel around when the union is slackened, does that mean the pump is ok and it's likely to be lack of compression.

If you mean slackening an injector pipe at the injector end and turning the engine over. I wouldn't say it guarantees the IP is perfect, it could be quite worn.
But if you slacken the union and there is a drip of fuel, there is a good chance pump is good enough to actually start it. If you don't get a drip of fuel, pump needs bleeding, isn't getting fuel, or is completely knackered.

Loosening injector unions with the engine running is different, that is a diagnostic technique for injectors or problems affecting an individual cylinder.

I thought that an injector test had been done?

If not, swapping the injectors between cylinders would be an easy way to rule out faulty injectors - if the fault moves with the injector vs if it does not.

Does the smoke diminish when the engine gets up to temp? When the timing was way out on mine (ie unburnt fuel), the smoke almost entirely cleared when the engine got hot.
When i had another fault that was an oil issue, it smoked plenty when hot.

To be honest I never let it run for more than a couple minutes , I doubt it got the chance to go up to temp.

Yes the injectors were tested and declared "as good as gold"

If it does not smell bad, I'd want to get it up to temp, and see what happens then.

There could be a possibility that its residual stuff, and when its gone, it will be OK.

I know that might be unlikely, but, so long as its not going to run away etc, I, personally, would be tempted to try.

Ok, I doubt but why not :D
Everyone's happy with that ? I am not going to wreck the engine ?

Your engine falters when you slacken the injector pipes on cylinders 1 and 2 but doesn't when you slacken either 3 or 4 correct?
If it is, it won't do any harm( except maybe wash the oil off the bores on 3 and 4 ) and annoy the neighbours :cool:

Yep - get a 2nd opinion.

I am not advising you - im just saying what i would do! : )

Id say the only engine wrecking things would be air locks in the head / pump after doing the gasket (is the heater in series - if so, make sure that gets hot), and a run away situation, where, if youre expecting it, and have the tools to hand, and are brave enough, can be sorted (not that ive ever had it happen to me, but ive sat there waiting for it once)

Ok, the neighbours will be ****ed though haha .
I am not sure my sensor is working to know when it is at temp , any rough idea how long it would take ? 10min ?

Without driving it? Bloody ages!
200s run cool and need to work to get heat into them.
If the temp doesn't work I suspect it was reading in the red and the bodger who did the conversion disconnected it.
The disco sender is incompatible with the Defender gauge.
There are a couple of options for you to take on this but let's get the engine sorted first.

Ok , I'll try to move it somewhere quieter before then ,
Yes , and the fuel sensor isn't working properly either , when I went to pick up the car in birmingham on the way back I ran out of petrol on the motorway while the dash was saying just a bit under halfway !
That is the next job as soon as I sort out the engine

Just make sure the coolant hose from the head gets hot the whole way along.

Its easy to airlock the pump on the 300, and I assume the 200 is the same.
