Just a little more background to our group...

The 12th Pontypridd 1st Cilfynydd Scout Group was first registered in 1931 meeting in the house of the leader. They held their meetings in various allotment sheds, house cellars and then at St Luke's church.
In 1936 they purchased a prefabricated wooden building which they erected around the village as they did not have anywhere to put it. Eventually a lease was taken out on the field at the rear of Brynderwyn Road, Cilfynydd for 17 shillings and 9 pence per year (87.5 pence in current money). We eventually purchased the field in the early 60s.

After the Aberfan disaster in 1966 parents were wary of sending their children to the hall as the headquarters were at the foot of the Albion Colliery slag tip and some concerns had been raised over its safety. New headquarters were acquired in Park Place.
These premises were known as the Unemployment Hall and it was built by the Quakers and had served the village faithfully for about 100 years.
We have upgraded the building over the years and use it for our present meetings but unfortunately, despite good maintenance, the building has developed some major structural faults and it is now more economical to build a new premises rather than repair.
In 2009 an appeal was launched with a view to raising £250,000 to get a new modern and purpose built premises which will see the Group well into the future. We are trying to achieve the majority of the fundraising via match funding sources but with the economic downturn this is quite a challenge.

If we are all in agreement Scouts sound like the prefered choice, as previously the Items should be durable and reusable.

Now I also Have a Crazy Idea if the Scouts are interested in weekend- I know someone with a magical small camping field, wooded area for open fire, compost toilet and running sink for washing plates etc. (just a thought but could ask owner)

I truly am humbled and proud to call myself an LZer.

Fanny... you forgot to add me to the list for a tenner.

We've broken up for the summer last night, with cubs and scouts joining up together for a fire with sausages, marshmallows and messing about in the stream. All had a good evening and I'll be sorry to see 3 good scouts off to the area explorers from sept, but I've got some crackers coming up from cubs.

That field sounds the business, would it be available in sept/oct time with a view to a combined cub/scout weekend camp??

Yes I can ask about the field in September, as long as it will be dry can't see too much issue.

Sounds brilliant :D

Okay I have asked my friend and his relation manages the area, he says he will ask and on the face of it they can manage 10 vehicles he thinks. He will comfirm if it is available in September and capacity and any cost.

LandiGirl you'd move in and never leave

further to this I can add day out to a special area with either rock climb if scouts insurance covers it or rope techniques etc and various other things

That was the plan :p:D ... I could build me a treefort, live off a tiny plot of land (I don't eat much) and pay my way by washing the dishes, holding faerie catching excursions and giving rides on my unicorn ;) x
