Has anyone ever heard of hub nuts shearing off? Was just chatting to the fella bought my V8 and he has managed to shear off the hub nut while knackering the bearing and twisted the thread section of the stub axle! I've never heard of that happening but everyone knows that I don't know **** about such stuff!

Ryder I suspect that either the lock tab was not locked over the first nut and it was adjusted incorrectly resulting in the inner nut winding itself on tighter resulting in the bearing fail and stripped thread. or its possible the thread stripped when you drive on a collapsed bearing for some time i have had this once at a comp and had to use a thread file to get try and get the thread back. Luckily it wasn't damaged too bad so i was happy to limp home until i fitted a new stub axle the next morning. It took alot of convincing that the thread was safe and when i did the bearing the nuts did up just fine and tight against one another. It was deemed safe and i took it steady home.

on the look our for a cheap must be cheap 200tdi engine can swap parts and some dosh i believe i could do with another one for my 90.

feeling well rough supposed to be doin the landy but managed to get a nice bit of man flu landy can wait til tomorrow cos i feel like crap lol!

Gutted I can't make Wales now!! :( ah well penty of time for trips over the summer!! Plus still need to strip and look at my CV's front bearings! The second battery + split charge system seems to have solved a dodgy earthing problem so really need to clean up my other battery earth too!!

Ryder's not getting on - have the offer of a PAS system but need to get to ware to collect it and every one is so busy being the bank holiday n 'all.

Seriously considering crawling under the landy to do the rear diff input seal. Bought one with the last lot of wheel bearings and Kai has seen Kev do his and thinks he can get on with it. BTW What size is the nut on the diff, behind the prop, Kev?

Other than that... no go on the whole "driving around" thing.

BTW the wheel bearing that exploded was on my old V8 not the tdi. Apparently the fella heard it collapse and then decided to drive another ten miles to get it home.
