Hi Chris, i am normaly home about 7pm on week days, There's a cafe at Dorking that would make good place to meet up, will see if i can get a post code for people with sat nav. I posted some rough dates for doing the Surrey lanes, 2nd or 3rd of August. If anyone is interested could you let me know the day you can make it, so we can get everyone along. Bit short notice, but i am meeting up with some people this Thursday to do some lanes in Surrey, bit of night driving should be good. If anyone wants to tag along, your more than welcome. Let me know and i will PM you the full details of the meeting place and time.

2nd or 3rd is good for me but I prefer saturdays since I sometimes have rehearsals on Sundays. Lets say the 2nd unless anyone else has a problem with it.

PLUS PM me the details for thursday. I will not know for sure until the last minute but We would love to come if we can.

Hey Ryder,

I wouldn't mind taking a trip to look, but if the concrete block is as big as Spyderman describes it could be a bitch to move. (weight + ground resistance could weigh alot more that you would first think) It might move but its worth a recce but I have no time at the moment let me know when your that way next and i'll try and make it! ?Yesterday was a laugh its just a pitty Spydermans engine blown. Jai

spyderman, i may have something of interest to you soon on the engine front!! leave it with me till the end of the week!!

OK I have to ask... I've been resisting the temptation but it's got the better of me.

Was it as wet and sticky as it was when we last did it (and I nearly tok up residence). Would I have got through? Looking at the photos (thanks spyderman) it looks just as bad as when I attempted it and there is no way in hell I would have made it, but the rangie seems to be doing ok. My ATs would have had trouble I am sure... but having had to miss out on the fun I can't help wondering what my chances would have been!

It certainly was a lot drier than when you got stuck, but it was still seriously muddy and the bomb holes still had motors for breakfast. A guy we met in a 90 with 35" simex and ARB lockers didn't make one hole and ended up winching.
I needed a little tug on one 5' section of ruts, even I bottomed out. I was going for the harder routes though, just to see what it would do now. Did the deep mud run on the left no problem.
So, in answer to your question, would you have made it on A/Ts - NO.

Kev did really well, because of the mud tyres and good driving. He needed quite a few tugs though because of lack of ground clearance.

If I had a motor that worked I'd do it again

jai I don't think there's any way of moving that concrete block, but I recon I could drive over it now:D I got the front wheels up on it when I had the 7.50s. I'm sure the Farmer has placed it illegally. A call to the Council is in order.

Kev, Jai If you want me to email the pictures hi-res to you, just PM me your email addresses?

Spyderman, will do.

BTW if it helps when you want to swap your engine I can bring over my compressor, air tools make life much easier (and faster).

Great photos. Any ideas what caused your engine to pop? Is it repairable or is it completely goosed?

Thanks for the compliment.

It is fair to say that on A/T's you would stand no real chance of getting through. The only way I could think of would be to try and drive "at it" at high speed. The momentum might get you through the mud and most of the ruts but you'd end up with a car in bits.

If you look at Spydermans photos you'll see the Rangie attempting lift off, for the conditions I was moving, it was the only way. Quite a challenge.

Cheers for the offer.

I think the air filter got blocked with mud, as the engine got seriously asthmatic causing pressure build up within the motor, blowing seals and cooking the oil. It finally lost power and gave up, boiled and dropped oil. Everything is fixable, but is it worth it, better to upgrade the engine, 2.5 or 200tdi.

Where is this concrete block i got friends with tractors :D :D

Took a drive down Bunyon's chimney last night. Saw the concrete block Spyderman was talking about a week or so ago. Maybe it could be winched out of the way to allow vehicles to pass but it would need someone more knowledgable than me to make that assessment. Perhaps Jai would be willing to take a drive down with me one evening and take a look, see whether we could correct this wrong that has beendone to an otherwise lovely lane.

Alright Chris i would b up for moving it tonight if your free if not could you send me map details i wont leav till its drivable i promis :D :D

Glenn, I recon that concrete block needs either a Crane from the road above it or a farm handler accessed from the field at the bottom. Which makes me think it must have been the farmer who put it there. I can't see how it would winch out of the way, it's just too big.

Obstruction is at the north end which is a small lane running down the side of a bridge.

Give me a shout as you leave and if I can get there I will. (still suffering the financial ravages of multiple birthdays in the same week!)

Cheers
