CDs exceeds minimum spec however you have bs1387

3.1. The minimum material specification for all tubing will be nominal 38mm / 1½" bore steel "blue band" tubing to BS 1387. (This will actually be nearer 42mm / 15/8") This has a minimum wall thickness of 3.2mm / 1/8" and a minimum outside diameter of 48.3mm / 17/8". See table below for practical imperial and metric stock sizes. Tensile strength will be between 320 - 416 N/mm2. Yield strength will be at least 195N/mm2. Tubing which exceeds this specification is recommended where the outside diameter at least matches the above type and a minimum nominal wall thickness of 2.5mm where the quality and origin can be traced.”

Andy was set to make his front hoop, ready to bend and then he double checked and doh!

So we put the engine and gearbox the horrible auto box instead

Ok, ye see that now. Can't believe that, I checked with the supplier and thought it was ok. If he wants to sell a couple of lengths back I will buy them, I'm sure I will use them, need practice with the bender, think they were £28 each.

Will need to find a supplier for mine, got another couple I can try. Now I have the specs to hand it will be easier

Where do you guys get your steel tubes/box section from at the moment

I ask because I've been making some brackets/winch mounts and guards for the range rover but because it's a p38 there's not much you can buy and what can buy is pricey
So,at the moment I've been buying from eBay but with postage cost I'd be better off getting it local

I use a company in Abbots Langley called South Midland Steel, there is a company just down the road from Roundhill which we use at work called A G Evans, they are a scrap yard as well. There are a few more about but don't know any names. Google 'Steel stock holder' and they should come up.

Steel Fast are great... their offcuts are major enough for most jobs.... they actually gace kai a ****load of steel when he was practising welding... didn't cost us a bean!

On the lookout for some Wheel nuts if anyone has some for steel rims floating about?

I had about three sets... but they seem to have wandered over the last couple of years!

There was some new on ebay for about £9 delivered for 20. Cheaper than breakers at that price.

Bloody typical... I have a suspect wheel bearing... and typically none in the workshop.... being sunday tomorrow, getting hold of one will be a mission... anyone got a wheen bearing set for an early disco? Happy to buy it from you!

Hiya Spydie... see you lurkin there... how's the health?

Won't be at Roundhill tomorrow- spent the day doing a whole raft of jobs including fitting new wheels, and whilst I was at it I bled and adjusted the brakes- just been out for a test run and the brakes are worse than before I started
