Some look better made than others, but to be honest it's a pretty dumb piece of metal. Providing everything lines up, you should be fine with whichever you choose.

Update from the 21 Feb fit; honestly, it seems to getting better and better. The test first was a left hand junction at the bottom of the road with a slight incline. Prior to the mod, the freelander was a pig in the morning. Now, it feels more responsive, free revving and great pick up.
Going through and including warm up, the engine feels like it has been 'de-strangled'.
The drive then is smoother, not jerky, you don't feel like you are going to die passing a tractor, for example etc, etc.
I must say, for a total of EGR blank, TDI tuning box & Miller's additive = £130 - I'm glad to say its a vast improvement.
Great advice from all - top mod - thanks!!

Just did the EGR mod about a week ago. I used the part from Sebastian_Workshop_2011 on ebay.
It is made out of Zinc plated mild steel.
Nice finish, nice price, nice results.
Car feels great and very responsive at light throttle now.

I went all the way though. Compleetely removed all EGR components and made a block off plate for the exhaust manifold.
I had to remove the EGR cooler because it had developed an intermittent internal coolant leak that only showed up after shutting off the engine and cooling.

Water from the cooler would leak into the exhaust manifold all the way to the hot side of the turbo. Coolant leak was very difficult to locate and diagnose. repair was also complicated. Camshaft cover and injector removal to name a few.

Running like a champ now!

Excellent news, that's the one I ordered :D

Hi Guys. Please Can someone explain to me the advantage of this mod. I am very interested in fitting one. I have an 02 plate Freelander 2ltr Td4 3doorIf. I would love a new project.

1/ Will it improve anythink in my engine.
2/ will it pass an MOT emissions test with one fitted
3/ are there any reasons for not fitting one.

Kind regards

Kieran

1 will help the engine breath better
2 yes
3 no stop engine getting full of black gunk which slowly causes low power when it blocks airways

Although the inlet will already be full of carbon. A good clean out of the inlet manifold and inlet ports is highly recommended. You'll not believe the cr@p that accumulates in there!

Bought mine off eBay, cost £30 without new bolts and gasket (which you don't usually need as originals should be OK)

Hi nickcc. Is there a brand I should look for. I am very new to all this and I don't want to buy something that may damage the engine.

Kind regards

Kieran

I'd go for item 171254929093 as looks the same as I bought but £10 cheaper. As long as there's a stub for the small vacuum pipe, the exhaust blank is heavy duty and it won't go rusty then I'd go for it (this one seems to fit these conditions).

Just noticed this ones from Prague so not sure I'd go for this as don't usually buy from outside the UK, plenty of others to choose from though and as long as they have the qualities I've listed they should be OK.

Help required with aluminium bypass kit please....

I have recently done a small overhaul on my wagon, changing the oil, air/oil filters, upgrade pcv crankcase breather and all new silicon hoses blahh blahh blahh ... I went to fit my £45 bypass kit today and something doesn't seem all that great? where the blanking plate meets the returning exhaust pipe bit? with the curved shaped jubilee clip I noticed on start up smoke or steam with little tiny droplets trying to escape from the clamping area when revving? sounded a bit rough also! so I whipped it all off and have gone back to the standard egr! all sounds and runs smooth again. I really want to run the bypass kit so whats up with my engine? where would the tiny droplets be coming from?
any help would be awesome...

Did mine today with a bypass kit from that chap in the Chek republic, no probs at all. Those that have said about the gunk build up were'nt kidding, two cans of Mr Muscle oven cleaner (bless him), almost a whole duvet cover and a final wash with petrol and the manifold looked like new. Pretty much covered most door handles and the tools in the gunk. Apart from an initial scare when the engine popped under load and started belching black smoke, (90 degree turbo pipe blew off, needed to be tighter), its now like a new engine, feels like a ruddy sports car. I can only assume there must be a leak in your connection to the blanking point!

Although I now have an EGR bypass unit and a BMW cyclone PCV I haven't had a chance to fit them. As an interim I blocked off the vacuum pipe and the attachment on the EGR. I don't know if it is psychological but it does seem to revving a lot more freely now, just need time to sort it for good now.

I have now had my EGR blanking mod on for 4 days. What a difference it has made to my fuel consumption 120 miles on 1/4 of a tank down the A9 to Perth. :) very happy.

I have just taken the EGR blanking mod out and put the old EGR back in. I was not able to get the hose to create a seal to the mod and it was starting to affect the engine and fumes were geting Into the car. there is also a hell of a lot of something that looks like black oil in there what might be causing this. I want to get the EGR blank mod in but it won't work at the moment. Any ideas?

I went for the DJ Design kit. It is a good one but for what ever reason it won't work for me. I am very frustrated. And I am now back to the old EGR. :-/
