It has a plastic screw type thing with numbers on. I think the owner did say the thumb screw had broken off. I have to change it with a screw driver. :( Owner on here. Didn't report that it didn't work. In fact he said it transformed his car. I find it hard to see how it could be broken? You may be right but I will try again once I've sorted the little bits out. I looked at the oil the other day and it was thick and gungy, definitely old.

Just received the Bearmach egr bypass unit from rutts 4x4 on ebay today. Made of aluminium and looks like good quality workmanship for the price. It also has the vaccum hose plug/holder welded on and the inside of the unit is straight through without the bit that would go the the egr hose being hollow (creating turbulent air inside) as I have heard some of the cheapest ones are made (don't know if this even matters mindyou). So seems very similar in quality to the Allisport one but £24 cheaper. Just a heads up to anyone looking at buying a bypass kit more recently as this thread seems to have run it's course ages ago.

I fitted one of the cheaper black metal ones off eBay the other day. Fitted fine and cars running a lot smoother.

Wouldn't have thought it would make any difference. I've done all the engine mods including Rover Rons and more than happy with the performance.

Fitted the blanking kit and cleaned the intake manifold as per Mings instructions and she is running much better. Also cleaned and respayed rear drums, as well as having a new tailgate window fitted curtousy of this f*****g wind!! F/L/H wheel bearing next

Cheers Ming

Hi, following the thread and the very useful pictures in it, I've just fitted the egr by-pass and tdi tuning box - can feel a great improvement already.
Suprisingly, the muck build up wasn't heavy in my td4 2004, 54000 miles.
Thanks to all for the reassurance and posts!:D
