Personnally I wouldn't use copper, it will corrode quite quickly with the chemicals and heat from the exhaust gas. I have done this with a piece of 1.5mm S/Steel plate, then filed the end of the connection on the EGR Valve down to allow for the blank. Have not done anything with the vacuum hose, my theory is that if the blank works as it should, the valve will not let anything through other than the cold feed from the intercooler. I have noticed a difference in acceleration from this.

Flipping eck thought I Was bin smart. How long before 2p needs replacin ? 3 months 6 months any idea. Am not averse to spending 2p every 6 months to keep it running as it is doin at the mo.

Right, read around the forum and a couple of people have said the black ones react with the heat and rust, did they address this problem as there seem to be a lot of black ones on ebay. They are also the cheapest. I'm not been a cheap skate but I aint paying 30 quid more for nice welds. I wont buy it if its rubbish though.

Will this do?
LAND ROVER FREELANDER 1 2000-2006 2.0 TD4 BMW ENGINE EGR REMOVAL BLANKING KIT | eBay

or for a couple of pounds more this
LAND ROVER FREELANDER TD4 EGR VALVE/REPLACEMENT | eBay

I'm not bothered about aestectics, just reliability.

go for the second one,in my opinion.wont have probs with paint etc.

I was thinking that but then I was also worried it might just be some cheap plating and flake off anyway. Doesn't actually say what material it is.

Guys, can that little pipe on the EGR valve make your car run smokey if it isn't fitted on a normal EGR valve? Not a blanked one.

the second one is chemically treated, unlike the first one which looks like it has been powder coated.

I cleaned my manifold clean of the crud that had built up and changed the EGR and the car was a lot smoother at tickover and more responsive throughout the ref range, happy days.

Does anyone have a picture of the bolts you need to remove to take off the inlet manifold? I took a few bolts off but it didn't budge?

on reading all the post and advice on here I finaly took the plunge and ordered the egr blanking plate for my freelander it arrived today seems like a quality piece of kit .so of I go and fit it will let you know how it goes and performs later

Kevins, mine came today. I was a little underwhelmed by the quality of the kit. It wasn't like the picture with the little nipple thing for the vac pipe. In fact it was a square lip on the top of the face plate. Lying it flat on the flat side it rocks which tells me it's not got a 100% flat face to mate onto the engine side and there are some rough bits of finishing. Not as good as I expected. For some reason I actually anticipated the actual pipe being blocked not the little offshoot lol. Not sure what I expected really.

mine was the same as picture, looks like good welding and quality steel. took the old 1 off also cleaned the manifold thingy out was full of gunk new air pipes new crankcase breather filter new oil and filter to boot all back together was a doddle to do really pleased with myself
been out for a quick run tonight and I can tell the difference straight away seems more responsive also seems to pull away a lot better than it did. wont know the real results till I ve done a good few miles tho I m sure it will be much better
so glad I took the plunge and thanks to all you freelander buffs for the knowledge and advice

I can't wait to get my stuff fitted but then I was underwhelmed with the synergy Think I expected too much and all I got was a load of black smoke. Really hope these couple of mods stop this.

that synergy should have made a big difference to your vehicle.i think you had it turned up to much if you were getting black smoke.;)
