Did the egr blanking mod today, all went well, air manifold wasn't as bad as some of you have had but gave it a good clean anyway. Put it all back together and started the engine, let it run for about 5 mins then turned it off and had the dying duck sound. Hopefully I will receive the pipe and plug in the post tomorrow from Dazjam, and I can get that on and my duck will be cooked lol.

Wow, took it for a drive after I fitted the little pipe and plug from Dazjam, what a difference, faster throttle responce and on kick down at speed faster responce as well and a lot smoother.

Would recommend this mod to anybody, well worth doing.

Ok I am convinced to do this, so to go through it step by step is this.
1. Buy a blank from ebay, around 30 squids
2 . Take it all off
3 . Fit the blanker
4 . Clean up all the stuff taken off
5 . Put the hose on
6. Put the vac hose on the stub
7 . Disconnect the other hose from the solenoid unit and clamp it (stop the duck)

But what is the mushroom type thing for on the other side??

Hi Martin,

The little mushroom shaped thing is where the pipe from the exhaust fits on. There is a funny clamp thing that holds it in place I found undoing it almost right off was the best to do and it will come off no problem.

Take the air manifold off and use Mr Muscle oven cleaner to get ride of all the muck inside. It's a dirty job so wear rubber gloves.

Re the vacume pipe connect it to the new blank but what I did was the same as suggested earlier in the thread and that was to disconnect it where it join's a bit further on and put a peg and small length of pipe supplied by dazjam to stop the duck, worked a treat.

Have a look at the pictures below and it will show you where to place the peg and small length of pipe.

Did the mod this morning , just a half hour with my mechanic, straight forward and easy job, was quite clean anyway. Completed the blanking off using a piece of vacuum hose and a piece of solid 4.5mm bar. Feels like it is more responsive , no hesitations and pulls like atrain. Only had the thing 3 weeks so well pleased at the moment.

You think that's good, wait until you have done the crank case breather mod as well lol.

Done the mod this morning. Connected all back up. The blanking kit I have has a small nipple for the smallest pipe to go back onto. Is this the vacuum pipe? If so what do I disconnect and block off to stop the duck noise? I've read the other pages but need it in plain English as I'm unsure.

Guys done my egr blank with a bearmach kit. Still getting the duck noise. I've read the pages but need it written in plain English. Is the smallest pipe the vacuum pipe and where do I need to disconnect and block off to stop the duck noise?

If it's the same as my kit the small braided vacuum pipe goes onto the 'nipple' or bit sticking out of the EGR. That blanks the pipe off as it is a solid nipple and really only a place to shove the pipe. It doesn't have any other function.

Same for me and I didn't get the duck noise but others have and that's why the pipe is often blanked off upstream.

Cheaper to do it like this with a 22mm cooper end cap, Dont need the hole thats stop management light on BMWs, worked great on my freelander.

Just cleaned out the inlet manifold on my 04 HSE auto. 2 gals of paraffin, 3 bottle brushes and a good jet washing all nice and clean. Blanked off egr with 2p piece and small set screw into end of vac pipe at egr end. Massive reduction in smoke and a good increase in power. Engine can now breath again, no hot exhaust gases means cooler air in hence heavier charge giving better burn and less sh*te and no duck quack to boot. Result !!!

Read somewhere that 2p piece will burn through quite quickly, some bypasses have also been known to burn through on the blank connection.
